Not being techno minded.......I assume that this will not work on a UK DVD player as it is in NTSC format.......

Best solution is to buy a 'Region Free' player. Bought mine two years ago for £ 25.00 at Media Market, plays absolutely everything. Opens possibilities to buy more from the US market, American DVDs are sometimes even released before a movie hits a cinema here...

Paddy is right, a DVD Player should be region free. But this is not the only obstacle when buying NTSC DVDs. The DVD players can usually play all formats - NTSC, PAL and SECAM, but not all TV-Sets can display this. E.g. here in Germany PAL is the standard and there are still a lot of TV Sets for sale which can handle PAL and SECAM, but not NTSC. You need to check the manual of your TV set to see what standards it can display. Most Sony TV sets are usually multi-system capable, as they are sold around the globe.

In that case you should invest some more, and get dvdschrink(.org)
Simply make a DVD copy with your computer!

Or do you not just end up making a copy of an NTSC format, therefore having two DVD in NTSC format.

Or is the NTSC format something physical with the disk itself rather than the content on it?

Nope, dvdschrink converts to region-free and you can choose the format.
There's also some program in there which cracks the copy-license...

Grand Prix UK version - Region 2 goes on sale 2nd October at Play.com. My order is about to go very shortly.

Lots of memories to look forward to - including the British car (Vanwall ?) in BRG, starting it up and trying it down the gravel drive, the Monza banking, special guest appearances from Jim Rockford ( Garner ) and Dick Dastardley / Hill.

Great - turned up with max volume, just to feed the habit until June 2007.

Oh, and the 'front engined car' is a Lotus, not a Vanwall.  From what I have seen and heard nobody has managed to get a Vanwall running for more than about 20 minutes since the Vandervell boys gave it up in the early sixties!

Personal highlights of the film for me are the footage of John Surtees rocketing around the original Spa in the rain (the Sarti Ferrari) and taking a ride looking over Jackie Stewart's shoulder around Zandvoort.

Mind you, a running Lotus is almost as rare. How about a running BRM V16 as virtually unknown.
I went to Bourne a few years ago for a BRM event and was within touching distance as the Nick Mason V16 started up and drove away. From then on, I referred to the exhaust blast as the breath of the dragon !. And the noise - wonderful!
Funny how this thread has reminded me that F1 then was better than F1 today.

Those glory days came at a high price however.  Next time you watch GP, get a close look at all the famous faces at the drivers meeting in the hotel lobby at Spa.  A good many of them didn't live to see the decade out.
