Let him first survive Sebring 2012!

This film should be played at high volume, so don't come complaining about it! And who the hell is Steve?

Hi Lazy,
That is Canada,s West Coast. The North Shore does not have any trees and mostly Ice floes.

I like Commencal bikes but I can't ride anyone elses stuff anymore as its bad for business.
You see I have had one of those 'oh sh*t my life is passing me by' moments and have decided after years of dreaming to quit the motor trade and decome a full time frame builder. I'm starting in january (that said i've already got orders coming out of my ears and i'm building a frame a week after hours already). So if anyone would like a bespoke frame and fork combo for road, mountain or track give me acall before things get too crazy. These frames are made with the finest available materials and completely hand built using traditional methods. They are stupidly expensive but the best always is.

I doubt they would be interested in anything other than the tripe served up by the big players. There is only one mag worth reading these days- Privateer. Great magazine.

Blimey Si, that's a career change that sounds like the choice of an artisan alright.

What do you reckon your typical road bike punter will be? I like to avoid The Man as much as I can, but I've got to say that I'd take a lot of convincing to get off a big player carbon frame and onto a steel one for anything but short rides. Except for maybe L'Eroica.

I tip my hat to your move, and good luck. Post some pix when you've got some.

I'm not sure about the typical riad bike punter- my background is Mountain Bikes and thats where the orders are coming from. Those modern carbon frames are so well dialled for both comfort and speed but i find them rather souless.
However, there is a move away from 'the man' amongst certain types. It was probably the fashionista fixie types that have restored vintage Hetchins frames and the likes, and outfitted them with newer groupsets to make trendy commuter bikes that have started a trend toward more traditional looking bikes. There are some really cool younger builders like Ricky Feather springing up that are building great frames with modern handling but with beautiful traditional touches. Steel tubesets have come on in leaps and bounds in the last 25 years and you can now get a frame that handles like a dream and has that classic steel spring, and looks nice to boot. I suppose its about individuality and nostalgia more than anything. I suppose they are the cycling version of those new old Morgan 3 wheelers- very niche, very expensive, not terribly practical but a whole lot of fun. And if there is anything we need right now its fun!

Plus you look cooler riding a traditional bike when you pull on your classic woolen Rapha gear.

Mate of mine did L'Eroica a few years back. Said it almost killed him but it was the best fun he has ever had with his clothes on. I really want to have a crack at it one day.
