It would be far more interesting if it were still the Paris Dakar Rally.

What's wrong with Lisbon?

In truth, when the Dakar has started in Paris, most of the France / Spain stages have been liaison stages (ie. drive by road under normal road regulations to the next checkpoint), with a short 'special' around a closed course.

The Dakar ONLY comes into it's own when the bikes, quads, cars and trucks get into the dunes and camel grass.

Maybe you should sit and watch a few stages on the TV Rick.  It's like the Tour de France for big boys.  Wink

Nothing but it's lack of proximity to Le Mans.  Go Luc!

I love this picture, it gives a real feel for the wilderness of the Dakar - the Sahara is not ALL sand dunes.

(btw, that's a Harley Davidson powered sidecar combo  Shocked )

I love it..  Grin the dakar is totally wikkid and the perfect tonic after that pagan/christian/hindu/muslim time that turns your credit card into a molten mess, and your liver jumps out of your ass and runs into the hills screaming for mercy Shocked

I see Luc Alphand is in the lead of the Dubai Dessert Challenge at present.  Bodes well for Dakar.  Rumours that he will race his new C6R at Sebring too (the class winning P&M entry from last year's 24 hrs).
