I saw the team and a of the car model at the science mueasum this week where they had a display.

Part of the display was the fuel pump, an V12 ex F1 engine!!! (or so the sign claimed, MCT are not a name I have come across before)

Very ambitious plans that are in need of alot more money.

MCT = Menard - They make Indycar engines and run an indycar team I think?  They might also run at Daytona?

John Menard is an utter scumbag.  Too bad such a cool project has his name associated with it.

I'd love to see one of these runs someday.

They have posted a new 'race' clip on YouTube to grab your excitement http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3mAPc9NcC4

Plus a test of the development rocket motor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDw2ckPpgAs

Don't forget, they need your support - http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/

Well worth resurrecting, and lovely footage of a new HTP rocket being fired.  Hydrogen peroxide, across a suitable catalyst (= the steam to start with) followed by injecting kerosene into the efflux to burn and boost the thrust further produces the flame, fuelled by H2O2.  Don't try this at home and, trust me, the missus's blonde peroxide kit is shy of the required strength by a very large margin.

More than the odd shade of Armstrong Siddeley and Britain's space programme with Black Arrow (which followed Blue Steel) that ultimately launched Prospero as Britain's one and only satellite on its last launch, made because although the project had been shelved, the equipment and people had already been shipped out to Woomera, so it was cheaper to fire it off than return with it or scrap it...and the earlier test firings fed data to NASA about the rentry characteristics of different materials to inform the Apollo programme.  A bit more here http://www.spaceuk.org/htp/htp.htm with a passing nod to the HTP rocket's V2 origins, and more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Arrow, with a full story here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Backroom-Boys-Secret-Return-British/dp/0571214967.....

When we did stuff because we could and cancelled it because a short-sighted govenrment couldn't see the potential in Space.  And when somebody else carried on and the commercially successful Ariane resulted, because they realised the potential for military applications to launch commercial comms satellites and we didn't...

Anorak off.  So a vehicle powered by a reheated EJ200 (as fitted to Typhoon) and supplemented by an HTP rocket to get you to the 1000mph mark at ground level when the reheated jet runs out of puff gets my vote.....because you can.... Grin

The british space project was on the TV about a month ago.  It seems that we had 2 decent rockets.  Both were cut, but one became the first stage for the European space project, and had about a dozen successful launches.  The problem was the French and Italian 2nd and 3rd stages, that never worked.

Good luck Bloodhound

UK space program was cut because we couldn't afford it.

So we give foreign aid to a country which can afford a space program.

Proof that the lunatics have taken over.  Angry

Hi Phil,

Glad you enjoyed it, still astonishing what we did because you could....  Progress is being made on Bloodhound, with the main structure in build, a full power test firing of the rocket planned soon, and runway trials once it all comes together this summer.  ultimately, heading out to Hakskeenpan in South Africa for the record attempt in 2012 all being well.
