Costing 43 euro's!

Indeed. Welcome to the European Community. And those 43 Euros are excluding a doctors appointment test (another €95) if you have an HGV linence, evey decade >:(

And if you drive an hgv for a living you have another little piece of plastic the digi thacho card which cost £30 odd quid
That tacho card costs us €85 per 5 years :-\

Ok Guys 'n' gals....can't be bothered to search the interweb.....is it compulsory to have a plastic driving licence or are the old paper ones still useable?

Old paper ones are still valid Andy, however if you have to change any details ie address you have to get one of the new ones.

correct - you don't have to have a picture licence thing. I have never owned one.

I haven't even taken off my spent endorsements, cos then its a change and you have to get a photo licence.

I would advise that the photograph on a driving licence is valid for 10 years. The photograph will need to be renewed before it expires.
 
You will not be able to apply for the renewal of your photograph using our online service.

An application form will be sent to the address we hold on record approximately 2 months before the expiry date.
