Best Bars?

Whats your favourite watering hole in the area.

I've only tried a few

The Porte Du circuit cos its the closest which is dead handy on raceday and the small bar just over the railway bridge in Arnage  which does a very passable omlette.
But its a long walk from Houx to arnage and twice as far getting back!

it gonna be a long, long post if I really have to mention all the best spots on the race area...

... let's start with the Kentucky (or named as an another US state anyway) at the flowered roundabout at the top right of expo centre...

... Le Bugatti, rue de laigné, 200m from the general entrance

... le tertre rouge, but this one was quite obvious....

One of the best place to drink and eat, especially for lunch is "Le Maritchou" on the way to the city centre on the avenue félix geneslay akas route d'angers, they've cheap and good menus with buffet of hors-d'oeuvre...

Any other place you require ?

Should the best bars be added to the map?  Or are they already on it.  Suppose I ought to go and look!

A bar map would be nice Gilles. If you have time in between being a tourist information officer,  estate agent, a BBQ salesman, a fridge purchaser, cultural attache, bargain hunter, lemans oracle etc etc etc.

Where would you recommend in Arnage? We usually only do omlettes but it would be good to branch out.......

What sort of price do they charge?
We went to terte rouge on the friday night, and they charged about £4 for a beer, had a couple then went back to campsite.

Thats probably about average. Quite often when I have drank in the bars in France, I could have went to the supermarket and bought a case for the price of one beer. In a real shithole scummy bar in Marseille once and it was £37 per round of 5 drinks and with everyone on a mission it sharp made a dent in your spending money. One lad spent more than he made.

One thing I've never understood in bars in France is why some (most) charge you one price if you buy a beer to stand at the bar but another if you sit at a table. I'm not certain but I think some may charge another if you sit on the terrace. (The Champs Elysee perhaps??)

I remember sitting outside a bar near to Notre Dame (the Paris one) and paying for the most expensive pint I have ever had in my life. 1 pint, 3 cokes £18. Of course trying to explain to the missus about sitting insde on a beautiful day.

I think I've been in the same bar!! Only problem was my "friend" insisted on buying the first round (our wives and kids were queueing to go up the tower) and he was your typical arrogant English tourist who thought a French barman would understand him if he spoke loudly with lots of hand gestures. We were ignored for a good five minutes before I stepped in and ordered.

A good bar to go to is the one in the main square on Friday afternoon.  The Breth usually turn up at some point as well.  Its the large bar opposite Mcdonalds.

If you don't want to drive,jump on the bus. The stop is just past the bar up from the museum.  Get a taxi back from the station.

I also like the Aussie bar down the road, but I can't for the life of me remember the goddam name of it. Probably something to do with my condition at the time.

price difference between comptoir and terrace or salle is due to different levels of VAT, and because they also add a percentage for service.
