As long time visitor to Le Sathe.  I can remember the days when the only way to get updates was to grab a 20 min old hourly report from the ACO shed in the Village or try to catch the hourly english report on the PA (of which you would miss the vital bits as cars passed by)

Radio Le Mans transformed the event and really untill last year it was part of the whole event.   Lots of politicaly incorrect stuff and lots of focus on the people actualy at the circuit.   It was so funny when Chuck discovered that you CAN have breakfast that only consists of another bottle of Beer!

However, last year it seemed more focused on those listening on the Internet.

They also missed out on the Campsite Tour on Friday evening  last year.

I assume they will be back again this year but I for one hope they return to the previous formats and concentrate on those of us at the circuit rather than those on the Internet.

I appreciate Radio LM, and enjoy it every year, but would have to agree that last year seemed somewhat "tame", or did I miss something?

I suppose its just having to pander to a corporate sponsor, and with more listeners on the 'net that would get the focus.

Yes I can confirm that Radio Le Mans will be on air again this year. They will be air from 12 'o' clock Wednesday lunchtime until 8 'o' clock Sunday night, now that 2 hours longer than last year, the reason for this is that they will be covering the England-France game. Again they will be on 91.2FM.

Only 22 days to go I can' wait...........

England-France game? What's that all about then? Six Nations is done and dusted for 2004!! Nothing to do with the proliferation of St.George items in the high street all of a sudden, surely - is there something going on then???

Guess there must be....  either that or there is a TV/Satellite decoder technicians' convention being held after the race  Wink

Last year tame, understated.
The only good ole routine was the race and the friday forum, yep they forgot the fans.
If a wish list comes of this then i would like to be able to get a better signal at mulsanne and in the town.
What about the other car race going on after the main event, couldnt they cover that instead. another excuse for more beer..... Grin

RLM has gone downhill a bit over the recent years imho and last year was missing a certain somthing of the energy of years gone by.

It's still great and LM would not be a patch on what it is now without it, however I must confess to having a bit of the problem with the Yank who does some of the race commentery now, he does sound like he is talking down to us phelps in the crowd as we are not in the 'know' to the extent he is.

I don't suppose anyone noticed but one of our buffoons got on as the final guest on the post race phone-in at about 5.55 sunday. I can't remember what he said but it was in the style of Sir Roly Berkin, late of the Fast Show. Something about

"Er blurgh blurgh... Bentley! Magnificent!....I er... just like great Uncle Tim in '33... blah blah blah... the the driver got out of the Alfa, arched his back and scuttled down down the pit lane like a giant spider!! Of course I'm very, very dwunk!"

We were cut off at this point as time had run out, but the RLM guys were howling with laughter.

It's such a shame when they finish far too early, you are still in the post race wind-down and they go to music...

I think the end is a bit of an anti climax.  No post race pundits / analysis.  Of course  there is a lot of time to chat during the race.   I think it would be good to have a recap of events after the race once every has left the  tadium and returned to the Campsites.

By 4:30 the hole thing is over everything is shut.  Of course in the circuit and on the Radio things have been going non stop for 24 hours so they need a break.    But you really have to wait till you get home to get the results etc.   It a shame you can't get the provisional results press release from the ACO before you leave that evening or the following day.

I was quite suprised to find that even the local paper didn't have the results.

If RLM read this I hope they view it as positive input on improving and not negatively.   They do a great Job.

Here's the link to the website

http://www.autosport.com/rlm/email/index.asp

Just please, please do not bleat on about impractical things - the RLM effort is brilliant and is always welcome; even if you don't remember the pre RLM days, all you have to do is switch it off when watching next to the track for a bit - you'll find out!   Also bear in mind that with the advent of radio on the web, that all the poor sods who can't get to Le Mans get great coverage, so some of the approach has to be aimed at them - at least we can see what is happening!   That said, it would be nice to get back to the "Jiffy Condoms" days....
