Title: Silverstone Supercar Showdown 6th May 2006
Post by: rcutler on April 11, 2006, 12:29:55 pm
Who is going to the Silverstone Supercar Showdown and FIA GT's on the 6th of May?

I plan on going with Dan Lowe, Rob and newbie motorsport fan Loaf.

Looks like no camping is avaliable but maybe we can all plan on staying on the adjactent site at Wittlebury Hall?

I like this bit - taken from the campsite's web site:

Fireworks and Alcohol do not mix.
Fireworks and Tents are Dangerous. Fireworks and confined space do not mix.

Guess they've never been to LM - or perhaps they have, and formulated this policy after seeing Friday night's activity at La Sarthe.

Cheers Rick, Will probably be staying there unless my mate who is supposed to be coming with me can get us into a friedn of his house in Towcester which is just down the road apparently.

Was the campsite busy last year, i.e do I need to get a shift on to book a pitch if I want one.

I think you'll find that the Whittlebury Park campsite is only walking distance on F1 weekend, for other events you'll have a few miles drive round to the main entrance.

Reasonable facilities, though, and the grass is good, as good as grass gets.......

Spoke to the campsite earlier they said:-

The circuit will only have the gate open to the campsite if there are enough people. If not it is only a short walk round to the main gate.

I will check the OS map as i too believe that it would be a long walk around!

BEST OPTION.

If all of us camp and the site is full then they will open the gate  ;D

Well I was watching 5th Gear and the bloke who does the 61 step £5000 carwash using the wax from some wild animals testicles that costs a fortune for a tub already has two owners of Veyrons signed up to his service.
In the feature he was washing a Massy MC12.

Since Clarkson drove one from Italy, through the Alps, Switzerland, France to the Nat West tower, against Captain Slow in a plane, last series, I've been putting my spare paper round money in a tin under the bed for one.

I may have a bit of a wait though  ::)

Agreed Mr Brown ugly as a box of ugly frogs plus more radiators than the average smi-detached, bloody stupid car, but pleased they built it tho.

Intresting, my father has done the same(ish, started a little east of Clarkson) as Top Gear and was only one and a half hours slower, in a Pug 806.......................

An hour and a half slower?  He must have stopped, as its all down to the speed limits or rather ignoring them.

When asked "How fast does it go mister" you have to answer "well I've had it up to 70 a lot" and have you found a road clear enough to go any faster?

For your info,

Advance tickets are available for £20 from the Silverstone ticket line. The first 500 advance tickets get a free pit walkabout pass. Mine arrived this morning and I had no. 414.

I spoke to Whittlebury park on the phone and a pitch costs £20 for the 6th. Note that they don't take bookings over the phone and will only post you a booking form out, so if you want a guaranteed pitch you should get a move on.

Me and Al (another Le Mans regular) are camping at Whittlebury on Saturday night only. Watch out for the grey Alfa 156 with the large spoiler. We can have a couple of cold ones (probably no fridge required). It will be nice to meet some fellow CA'ers.

If the camping is, as it was last time I used it, right by the entrance to Whittlebury Park, it's nowhere near the circuit.  For the GP weekend they use fields right next to the circuit but I doubt that is where you will be this weekend.

So what was the score at Whittlebury?

Were you near the main entrance, ie nowhere near the circuit and therefore had to drive to the main entrance, or did you scale the fences?

Was it wet on Saturday night  ::)

We were on the marshals campsite for the weekend and had a blast  ;D

Very much a run in for Le Mans - we got rolling drunk on the Saturday night and the weather was lovely  ;D  It rained a couple of times over night and at some times during the day but Saturday night we sat outside the tent eating steak and crepes until nearly 1am - felt (and looked!) like poo all of sunday though!

The Campsite was good albeit a bit expensive, The gate was open so only a 15 minute walk altough it seemed a lot further when it was teeming down with rain on Saturday. Good to meet up with Jay Team Cannonball, Sooty and Chris24. Would recommend the campsite only if camping on circuit is not available.  Looking forward to an event on at Silverstone when the campsite is open so i can cut deep into another finger   ::)

What confused me last year was that they allowed camping at Silverstone for the LMES event but not the Britcar 24 hours.  ???

So it was you then Piglet.....

We were in the Marshalls campsite too, but didn't get back till about midnight on saturday night after visiting the teams that were still working and then heading into the village for a beer or two.

Rick, Britcar 24hrs was a bit of a cockup at Silverstone last year, the Silverstone people thought that cos they had rented the circuit to the Britcar people then the Britcar people would do all of the organising......  But they didn't.....  But this year I think the circuit people will be doing the organising so I would expect there to be some camping, but don't quote me on that!

Whoops!!  ;D  I was going to post an apology thread on the marshals forum on 10/10's - It did occur to me on Sunday that we were probably quite loud  :-[

We were in the middle of the second "part" of the field - Saab, BMW with roofbox, Skoda three tents and a caravan with another BMW.    We weren't the bigger group in the middle of the first part of the campsite who looked like they were in for a session as well!!
