Got the DVD today.

What I haven't got is the video editing software I thought I had...  Roll Eyes The stuff I have edits mpegs not DVDs. My cracked copy of the Adobe product seems to have expired.  Undecided

I'll work with it for a day or two (if I get time) and try to do something with it. If I fail, and there are no other volunteers who can edit it, I will make copies as it stands and send out as requested...

I[ve now downloaded sometyhing that (I'm hoping) will read the DVD to an mpg which I can then edit and stufdf back onto DVD. Anyone know if this is likely to cause quality problems?

Conversion has begun, over 5 hours remaining...

Sorry about this just a tad off topic

i am thinking of buying a dvd recorder, i already have a camcorder which i then upload on to the pc and edit and make films, are you able to import the recorded items in to this kind of package? i cant import purchased dvds in i just wondered if recorded ones would. is this the kind of problem you have now hit smokie?

Ummmm...

I am trying to edit a DVD which Bob has recorded from TV, presumably on a DVD recorder. I guess I'm reverse engineering it into an editable format (mpg), as I don't think .vob files (for that's what they are) are editable, or at least I don't know of a package that does it. This isn't a specialist area of mine!

I can then author it back to being a standard DVD format (vob) and write new discs.

(There are products which allow you to de-protect and de-regionalise purchased DVDs btw). I may have used one in the past  Wink.  It was good as you could strip out the menus and trailers, and shrink the remaining film to a standard DVD without significant loss of quality).

Smokie,

If you have any more problems and provided it is the right format I can edit out the ad breaks and trailers on my DVD recorder, like I did on the Audi DVD I did earlier this year then re-record the results for distribution.

Just something I dragged down this morning - an eval version of Magic DVD Ripper.

Seems to have done the trick - I now have 6 large mpg's and 2 small ones. At a glance, quality looks OK on PC screen....

I have a program to join them somewhere. Then I can edit.

I hope no-one was in a rush for this Smiley

"Other commitments" are getting in the way but I'm hoping to get this done soon.

I've converted it to mpg but editing is tediously slow. I'm assuming it's grabbed the episodes in the right order...

How big is the file? I have some spare space on my work server, so could host it for people to download?

Ummm...

Not yet finished editing, it's a little over 3Gb. Hostable I imagine?

Glad you reminded me about it!

Just about hostable.

I don't have any bandwidth restrictions on my connections in the office, luckily Smiley

Yeah, I can see that might be a bit of an issue.
