The upcoming full-length cinema documentary, McQueen the Man & Le Mans will receive a Cannes Film Festival Worldwide Premiere. The film will be shown as part of the Cannes Classics section of the world’s most prestigious and famous film festival on Saturday May 16th to an audience which will include the late star’s son Chad McQueen.image001

The film covers not only Steve McQueen’s passion and obsession to make the ultimate motor racing movie, but also the turbulent financial and personal problems he was facing at the time. It includes previously unseen footage including material from the long lost “rushes” of the film and powerfully uses the last audio interview McQueen gave before his untimely death in 1980.

The film is based on an idea by veteran motor racing broadcaster and journalist, Andrew Marriott, whose vision and research has, over the last 18 months, been crafted into the film by Directors John McKenna and Gabriel Clarke. Like Andrew, both have previously worked in television and this is their first film. To be selected for Cannes is considered a huge accolade in the cinema industry. The film will be launched to a worldwide cinema audience in November of this year.

To produce the film, The Man & Le Mans team interviewed actors, race drivers, film technicians and movie management who were all involved in the original movie in the summer of 1970. The drivers include five times Le Mans winner Derek Bell, David Piper, who lost a leg in a filming accident, and the late Jonathan Williams who drove the Porsche 908 camera car in the actual race.

The team tracked down German actor Sigi Rauch, who played the Ferrari driver Eric Stahler, and Swedish actress Louise Edling who played Mrs Ann Ritter in the film. Both give fascinating insights into Steve McQueen, as does his personal mechanic Haig Altournian. Original screenwriters, personal assistants and producers all give their side of the story, but perhaps the most moving testaments come from Steve’s wife of the time Neile Adams and their son Chad, who was on the set aged ten years old. Chad revisited Le Mans last year with the film makers to re-live some burning memories.

The interviews are interwoven with great period footage from the original film, and action from the 2014 Le Mans Hour race and Le Mans Classic. The racing footage includes some of the long lost rushes, which were tracked down by the film’s archivist Richard Wiseman after being lost for over 40 years. If it's on the track then there will be major road closures that will have to be born in mind.

They shut from Mulsane to Arnage of Friday anyhow.

ANIMATION Virage de Mulsanne
This day will bring together not only avid motorsports fans within the general public, but also the race participants. Indeed, the drivers will come meet the crowd for an autograph session. The band Trio Bele Noci will enliven the day. Miss 24 Hours will also be there as well as various booths and attractions - such as the showing of a Peugeot car that won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, cars from the OAK Racing outfit and the innovation of the year: the presentation of the RCZ R ART CAR. Safety will be ensured by track marshals. Friday, June 12th will be a festive day for the Mulsanne corner. The party will take place on the outskirts of the Village and on the track. This day will pay special tribute to Peugeot, as shown in the very beautiful illustration by painter Ray Toombs. An exhibit will put his works on display.
84  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Driver's Parade on: May 11, 2015, 09:12:15 pm
You will find it will busy everywhere, the Tram is a good option to get into town (parking is not good) you can find the full schedule for the week on this link http://www.24h-lemans.com/en/program/program_2_2_1736/20150612.html, you will see that the Parade starts at 17.30 so you need to aim to be in town a bit earlier depending on where you stand on the route. The Parade does become very separated along the route and quite protracted and giving lots of oportunity to drink beer, making the return journey a bit of a challenge for some.

Saw it from the N13 on way to St Mere Eglise. Didn't go in but seems like fun, website here.
We are also there before and after LM, the tank museum looks a good day out for the boys, maybe drop the girls at the Tapestry. We did Pegasus last year, very poignant, very worthwhile. I thought the actual beaches were very sanitised now, inevitably, the American Cemetary is huge and very moving.

How much do they cost to buy/ Set up? If your not on Eurotunnel it seems to be €39.50 including a €20 refundable deposit on the tag + a month activation fee of €6+ the standard toll charges. So ideal if you go to Europe regularly or like Gary, travel on your own in a small car.
