76  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Your help needed to win Sebring GoPro Fan competition. on: July 03, 2013, 02:58:27 am
Hi Geoff,

It produces MP4 files. I have downloaded the GoPro software too but again not much use until I upgrade my computers memory plus delete a lot of sh*t that is slowing it down big time at the moment. (HD full)
77  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Your help needed to win Sebring GoPro Fan competition. on: July 02, 2013, 01:43:44 pm
To be honest Kev, so far I have only editted one video as i was using a trial version that watermarked the video. My PC however needs more memory to be able to deal with the HD footage so until I get that sorted, then I don't want to waste my time editting it. Once sorted I need to use a proper version without the watermark. I friend sent me a copy of the software without the watermark but it appears to be missing the key elements that I used to edit with on the trial version. Once I get my head around it all, I will post back about it.
78  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Your help needed to win Sebring GoPro Fan competition. on: July 01, 2013, 12:07:36 am
Earlier this year, I was one of five people chosen to receive a Go Pro Hero 3 camera in a competition run by Sebring Raceway in Florida. All five contestants then had to film their Sebring experience with the camera and submit the footage to Sebring. Sebring Raceway has commissioned a company to edit each of the contestants footage into a short film of around 3 ½ minutes long. The final part of the competition to decide the overall winner of the competition involves each of the short films being placed online for a 12 hour period, whichever contestants film gets the most “hits” during their 12 hour window, wins the overall competition prize which is basically 2 tickets to next year’s 12 Hours of Sebring race, paddock car parking pass, event poster and GoPro goodies etc.

My short film will be going online on Wednesday 3rd July at around 10:45am Florida time or 3:45pm UK time and this is where I need everyone’s help. Once my film is online, I will repost again on this thread on Wednesday afternoon with the link to my film. All I ask is that as many people as possible please click on the link to my film. I don’t care if you watch the film or not but a click counts as a hit on the counter. I am posting this on all the online forums that I am a member of and also on Facebook etc as I feel that with such a large membership across all the forums, if the majority click on my film, I think I stand a very good chance of getting the most hits and winning the competition.

So please check back on Wednesday afternoon for the link. The film may only be viewable via Sebring Raceways Facebook page but I am not sure until Wednesday, also it may have to be viewed on a PC as may not be available to mobile phone.

Many thanks for all your help and fingers crossed that my film gets the mosts hits.

A bit of useful info I got from a friend today that travels to Le Mans alot delivering racing bits to the teams.

One more thing Chris, when you come off the A16 onto the A28, just a bit after the toll booth, there is a newish speed camera around distance marker 2. The limit there is 110kmh and it seems to be set with little tolerance - it flashed me at 112kmh last month (but no ticket received)

Cheers
Les

I think Tom needs to test drive it at Le Mans.

...but no need to worry...they will hold the race no matter the weather...unlike NASCAR

Or at the 'Ring during the 24h  Grin
Kristof,

Trust me, stopping the race at the Ring was absolutely the right call for not only the safety of the drivers but also the marshals. We was out at Aremberg when the rain hit and visability was pretty bad at that point and we commented on how bad it must be for the drivers in those conditions. We walked back to the car and went back to the campsite and it then started to rain 3 x heavier than when we were at the track. That rain never let up until about 7 am and the camp site flooded, the floor in the living area in the front of my tent looked a bit like a river that night. Combine that with thick fog that also came down at the same time and it was just outright dangerous to continue with the race. You know only too well how dangerous that track can be in good conditions.

T shirt looks great Rusty and i can't wait to wear mine. I will send money for my order this weekend, but just waiting to hear back from someone that went to watch the Dambusters Derwent commemoration with me last week, if he wants to add to my order.
83  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Looking for a passenger to split costs with. on: April 25, 2013, 02:49:03 am
This is copied straight from my post on facebook so is just a general post, but is obviously open to suit peoples circumstances if you already have tickets etc, but basically I am on the look out for someone to travel down to Le Mans with me and split my costs etc. So if you know anyone that wants to go but either can't get there or whatever, i would like to hear from them, thanks.

Anyone fancy a trip to the 90th running of the Le Mans 24 Hour sports car race in June ? I really should have posted this much earlier than this but better late than never.

I am looking for a passenger for the trip in June to split costs with, as for various personal reasons the two people that were interested in going have decided to give it a miss this year as they have other plans for holidays... this year. So if you've ever fancied a trip to the race without the hassle of organising anything except yourself and travelling with someone that knows the lay of the land.

The basics are, setting of on Wednesday 19th June, Euro Tunnel to France, F1 Motel for the night at Rouen, Thursday morning drive down to the track at Le Mans, set up camp and then enjoy the day watching the qualifying sessions at the track, Friday is a free day to walk the pitlane etc and then visit the Great British Welcome which is a big gathering of interesting cars at a local school and grounds and then take in the drivers parade in the town centre.
Race day is Saturday / Sunday and after the race we head back to the F1 Motel at Rouen for the night.
Monday 24th June, drive back to the Euro Tunnel and make the drive home.

Cost all in is £280 which I am prepared to set at a set price at this point in time and any extra costs I will stand myself as i would rather travel with another person at a slight loss than travel on my own and pay all the costs. That is based on 1 person travelling with me, but if you fancy it but would like to bring someone else along then by all means still get in touch as that is also do able as i can borrow a roof box for the car if needed. and would bring the costs down per person yet again.

That includes Camping at the track Thurs, Fri and Sat, Hotel on Wednesday and Sunday nights, Euro tunnel crossing, race ticket, breakdown cover on the car,

All you need after that is a bit of food or beer money and any spending money if required. dates again are Wednesday 19th June to Monday 24th June.

Still no joy finding someone prepared to take a risk and insure my sister for her planned family holiday to Florida with her kids. Today she appeared on ITV's calendar program and was also interviewed by her local Hull radio stadion Viking FM, the full interview can be heard at the link below. The second link is to the ITV interview.

We are not giving up hope of finding a solution just yet but time is running out as the holiday is booked for the end of May and my sister has to make a decision in about a weeks time on starting the next course of chemio based around whether or not she is going to Florida or staying at home.

Thanks for taking an interest.

Basically my sister filled in her forms online and was as honest and open with all her answers about her illness and disclosed everything. The online sysytem came back with a premium figure which was about £650, this seemed reasonable so she called them to check in person and was told that if thats what the computer said, then it was OK. So she paid the premium and then started to book and arrange the holiday. Flights booked, Disney hotel booked, park tickets, swimming with the dolphins with her kids ( or in my sisters case wadding with the dolphins), car rental booked and mobility scooter booked.

At this point the kids were really excited so they then got their own first proper suitcase and have even packed them already.

Then 3 weeks later a call came out of the blue from the insurance company to say that there was a problem and the computer shouldn't have OKed the premium and they would have to cancel it because there underwriters would not cover her.

So she got straight onto the Ombudsman and they e mailed the insurance company.

To be fair the company is an insurance company set up by people who's family had problems getting cover when they were ill themselves. The company agreed to pass the cover over to another specialist cancer insurance company and would fund the difference in premium themselves. However after talking to the people at the new company their doctors decided that due to her having spent about 3 visits in hospital this year with infections / complications related to an infected chemo line that they couldn't come up with a viable quote to cover her. So they have basically said that as they can't place a figure on it, that she is uninsurable.

The infected chemo line has since been replaced so hopefully there won't be any further isses with it in the near future and the holiday is in 6 weeks time.

It appears that by being totally honest and providing full details of her situation has been her downfall and she maybe gave them too much information which has scared them and led to them not issuing a premium figure to cover her.

The company would have paid the premium if they had come up with a number. They have agreed to re emburse whatever costs have been incurred by my sister for her cancelation and not being able to travel but it was decided that the rest of the family are still travelling and taking the kids to florida otherwise they too would be totally crushed.

They have also suggested that it may be possible for them to fund a trip for her with the kids to Disney Paris in the summer but this is of little consolation to my sister as she had promised to take her kids to Disney in Florida having already been to paris with them before.

This is her final chance to take them to America like our parents took us at the same age and all that stands in here way now is someone willing to accept her insurance or someone who will underwrite the policy and take a risk.

She may be fine whilst in the US  and may not need any treatment whilst there, but she simply can not take the risk of going without cover and possibly jeopodise her kids home and any money that would be left to them from her pension if she was to incurr any large medical bills without insurance or an underwriter in place.

Looking forward to the trip gave her something to keep her focused and now that has been ripped away from her and she is crushed and feels that she has let her kids down on a promise that she made to them.

Sorry to bore you but I thought giving you the full big picture would be a help.

I am trying to raise awareness of a situation that is greatly effecting my family at the moment. As a life long motorsport fan, I spent most of my weekends at race tracks and rally stages and have always viewed the motorsport community as extended family so I am hoping that the motorsport family can help me out with one simple request.

My sister is terminally ill with cancer and all she has ever dreamed about doing since she had her two children was to take them to Florida so that they can enjoy the same trip that our parents gave me and my sister when we were chiildren.

Travel insurance was sought and purchased, with that in place, a trip was booked and paid for and the kids started to get really excited about going to Florida with their mum and family. Now 3 weeks after issuing the insurance, they have been notified that it has been cancelled as it was a computer error that allowed the policy to be issued online.

Without travel insurance she can not travel with her kids and family and will have to stay behind at home, this is crushing my sister and her kids at the moment and sadly the situation can not change unless we can find an underwriter that is willing to insure her for the trip.

We have set up a facebook page to try and raise awareness of my sisters case and situation with the hope of being able to find a solution to the problem and finding an underwriter for the insurance so that she can go on her dream trip with her kids.

All I ask is that you "Like" and "Share" the facebook page with as many people as possible via facebook so that we can get this in the view of the public as much as possible.

http://www.facebook.com/HelptoInsureTerminallyIllMum

I have never asked much of people, but I am asking now for one simple thing, please share the link via social media.

Thank You,

Regards

The shuttle buses are a joke as is the lack of a bridge or tunnel near the start straight. I mean a 30 minute walk from the car park to the paddock is a joke.

Also on the bill at Northampton Raceway alongside the BriSCA F1 stock cars are the BriSCA V8 Hotstox (smaller cheaper version of F1's running Rover V8's) & The National Ministox ( kids between 11 - 16 years old is race constructed cars that resemble minis) They race just as hard as the adults !

Admission is £16 adults, £13 concessions and £7 children.
