901  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Why the high Police presence on: June 10, 2003, 12:29:13 pm
Do they really think that just because we are Brits, we like a good drink that we are a bunch of mindless football thugs who will rise to a fight at even the slightest provocation, (hello!).
i also like JP have never never experienced any trouble whatsoever in the 13yrs ive been anywhere around LM.
Just take the world cup last year, for me watching it with 200 danes and 100 brits went down a treet.

to the police reading these forum posts, please reply here with a reason why you want to make us feel welcome at your wonderful La Sarthe?

I have seen several people badly hurt over the years, in the mad Friday "japes", incuding a motorcyclist who went thtough the screen of a Jaguar, putting himself and the car's passenger in hospital. And we all remember the hit and run Ferrari in 2001. Not every frenchman or woman appreciates the innocent intent of being soaked by a high powered water gun, etc.
There are quite a few French people who avoid the race like the plague because the don't want to encounter what they see as drunken hordes of Brits and other "Furriners". Gilles will confirm what I say, but I have it first hand, even from people who live inside the circuit and who get free race passes.

One man's fun .............

The CRS are there every year. It isn't something new.
But we have a new right wing government after years of laissez faire and they are determined to crack down on what they see as anti-social behaviour. Best to sus the scene out before going wild!
903  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Come and meet Gilles (and me) on: June 10, 2003, 12:12:05 pm
Look forward to meeting you both, see you there.
are you on the stand all day every day?

Gilles is there virtually all the time from Wednesday onwards. I shall be there lots of the time, and my editor, Sebastien Dulac, who speaks good English, will be in charge of the stand - it's his money!

Have fun and see you there. Don't know exactly where we are yet, but nowhere in the village is far from the shampoo bar.
904  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Come and meet Gilles (and me) on: June 10, 2003, 11:56:39 am
Gilles and I will be found in the Village on the Automobile Historique stand.
Automobile Historique is a great magazine if you are interested in the history of the sport up to the '70s, and it's available with an English translation by - guess who (no, not Gilles).
We have several goodies as well as the magazine, so please drop round for a chat.
See you there!!
905  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Calais is closed Tues. 10th!!!!!!!!!!!! on: June 10, 2003, 11:46:44 am
Calais is open,
P&O are sailing with slight delays,
but Sea France is on strike for 24 hours,
the good news is that I am booked P&O, Phew!!!!!

who would book with a company owned by a bunch of frog eating surrender monkeys,

no offence intended to our own frog eating members Angry Huh Cry

Great news!

No offence taken, but the company isn't owned by surrender monkeys, it's the union card-carrying monkeys who are on strike. France is divided into two types of people - the job for life types, and those of us who have to work to stay in business!

Have fun.

907  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:How far can you get around the circuit on: June 09, 2003, 11:26:06 am
Mike,
Arnage is definately worth a visit, although whether or not it's walkable depends on how good a walker you are. It's quite a hike, but as the weather was good last year, it was total gridlock on Saturday night, walking would have been quicker. Take some whiskey.
H

Take a bike is best. Not much more than 10 mins from Maison Blanche.

Viewing at outside of Porsche curves is excellent. Access via public road - so no cars within sight along the way.

Don't mix whisky and bike, though. I did once, and ended up with a broken collar bone.
908  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:How far can you get around the circuit on: June 08, 2003, 06:28:20 pm
Friday you can walk the whole circuit.

Top man. My wife gets tired of the constant le mans talk in my house, how does yours cope.

Gilles has more sense than to have a wife! Anyway he has a Panhard.
913  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Round table on: June 03, 2003, 12:01:09 am
I have a folding picnic table with built-in seats and a central hole for a parasol. Does that qualify?
