The booklet I have just received with my renewed membership card states:

haha, good one ;D ;D Yes, fortunately he is, and we did the same trip in the same car already in 2008. But your question gives me a lead about the causes for the 2 flat tyres we had ;)

Our tickets arrived yesterday and there was a Paddock ticket included, although I seem to remember it was included in the price. So I would say you need a ticket but you don't pay for it!

Just got my accreditation through! ;D
Aiming to go either Thursday evening or Friday during the day the coming back Sunday evening but am flexible on this. Anyone got a space or interested in sharing? Trying to keep pennies low ;)

Two things, 1, I hope you mean space for a tent and not space in my tent!! Not even my missus gets that opportunity. 2. Compensation/remuneration will need to be discussed before a beer, as it all gets silly with too much beer :o
Anyway Dr S. is the organiser and provider so you will need to speak to him.
See you soon.

Two years ago they certainly provided free paddock access with tickets bought on the gate with an ACO card. The only downside was that you didn't get the paddock ticket at the gate. You had to go to the ACO stand entrance and be issued with a paddock bracelet.

Hi Rick
I think you would lose out on the sharing experience, I remember a friend saying that although I was closer to the track than he albeit by one tent that when the Mazda went past in '91, which was a screaming Wankel, they could not hear it when I was snoring.
And yes ... scrub your last sentence.
Does anyone have a layout for MB camping?

Does anyone have a layout for MB camping?
Haven't seen one for 2010, but Beermountain have the 2009 and 2008 plans on their website.
Although our pitch isn't on the 2009 plan.
Common theme is that the further down the alphabet the Rang is, the nearer the track you are, and the lower the place number, the nearer to the entrance you are.
However as the ACO moves in mysterious ways, it will be totally arse about face for the Classic.
-
I remember Martin's snoring all too well. At one point it went up a gear and i could here people giggling in other tents everytime you let rip with another.
As for your pitch, imagine where we were last year, looking toward the track we are left a bit on the next row back.
-
Gents, huge thanks for your offer. Now travelling to/from with Jigsaw Racing (doing photos for them during the race - Triumph Spitfire ADU1B and no. 56 in grid 4) and they think they have space with the motorhome in Houx so can I keep my options open here just in case? Either way we must meet up! I'm now arriving Wednesday lunchtime and we're not leaving until Monday lunchtime :)
I'll PM you my mobile Si so we can hook up either way ;D

Hey Rick, They will never get an extra six of us in their motorhome, though I do fancy Houx. You take it mate and we will take turns to come and share with you ;D

Hi Bazzer, Can you be the no.1 in this as I am sure to forget, in fact I may have forgotten already!!
So it's a 52 Bugatti back end? No, it's a - buggered if I can remember, John Smiths, Vodka today and wine with supper has already fuddled the brain... and while you think 'he can't be that far gone' I have been to the club for five hours and done a litre of wine with supper, I know that is taking it easy as regards to LM standards but i had six hours there last night after three large voddies and half a litre of wine with dinner.
You may think, if he has had all this stuff why is the spelling ok, well I read before I post AND I can spell...
Off to fall asleep in front of the TV now...

As we are travelling by Alfa and it doesn't have much room and has no ground clearance (last trip we wore out the sumpguard), small tent, sleeping bag and a small holdall each is all we can take. Andy might have a little space in his car if we get stuck, but travel light and remember 'Carrefour WILL provide!'

The GTA is surprisingly spacious if you fold the rear seats down - but want to be as light as possible as the fuel consumption isn't very good at the best of times !!!!
Whatcha Martini - how's it going? Will we tempt you further than last year?
-
Hey Plenty Sideways, maybe this year you need to change your name to Plenty Understeer??
Welcome aboard Fran, you get the best seat in the house, just ignore this lot, the old girl will get us there no problem despite Martins towbar references (although it would help when getting it out of the gravel trap on MB I suppose :-[).

Hey Buddy...LB
I wondered the other day if it was worth dropping you a line as I am not really sure how often you log on.
Anyway, it is good to know that you are coming this year, I am sure I will be able to understand more of what you say the drunker I get ;D
I recently did a course for four hours in "Understanding the Geordie accent", I think it was successful, wye aye man. I thought this is good so I went on to do the further education series of learning the main words and phrases, this was to be something of a disappointment as the whole thing only lasted 15 minutes and ten of that was for a coffee break!!!!! ;D ;D Dey do dat doh don't dey.
Ok, sorry. It will be good to see you again and I would suggest taking the back seats out of your car so you can carry all of the spare luggage that Fran...LB will be carrying, dish mop, fairy liquid, gloves, etc. I have thought about bringing extra glasses just to keep her busy, we wouldn't want her to take over any conversation would we, if she can understand it (sorry again).
As for the distance I will travel from the campsite, you cheeky young whippersnapper, I have the full intention of jogging the circuit and checking out all the cars including all of the owners club areas, this will of course be before you arrive so I will therefore be exhausted by the time that the full Team...LB arrives. This, quite obviously will necessitate full rest and relaxation from friday lunch onwards...
Keep smiling, and don't forget your little coffee pot.

Keep digging Martin!
Its hard to know where to start:
"Dey do dat doh don't dey" = not like that they dont, not in the north west - I think you need to go back to Level I!
"dish mop, fairy liquid, gloves, etc." = I'll show you where to shove em if you dont watch out!
"we wouldn't want her to take over any conversation would we, if she can understand it " - you seem to forget that I am an emigre to the glorious north - so I dont anticipate any problems in that respect either.
Bring it on!!

Dear Frangipan...LB
Not sure about the digging, I think I was fishing, and I got a bite...
Your first point - it all sounds like that...
Second point - "I will show you etc." Who would that be a demonstration on as you normally find me sitting...
Understanding the lingo - This was not a slight on you, but as to whether you would be able to understand it. I do know that you improved your education of the English spoken word, very south in Guernsey...

Lotus owners should not throw stones!
How's it running Dave? Or are we still pushing it down hills to get it started? ;D
-
Yes Martin - the coffee maker is already packed. As is the Resolve and some indstrial strength ear plugs !! As for the Scouse lessons - I think you've been robbed. I'm a Durham lad - although I'm now learning SiSwati and SiZulu, you'll never understand them !!!
Dave - good to hear your in fine fettle. "Donor car" ;D, all the bits are sitting safely in my hall - one day the little (ivory !) Giulia Sprint will be at the Classic.
No need for the "plenty understeer" name change - now the LSD is fitted, it behaves itself much better (it's never really been the ditchfinding, "idiots car for idiots" that TG made it out to be).

Oh dear. Extreme dissapointment is not the way to start a road trip Fran.
Taking the Alfa for it's first long trip today. I have to go down to Durham and brave the Passport Office. Mine expired last week. :-\
Also going to have to drive one handed as my wrist is heavily strapped after an almighty tumble out on my Mountain Bike on a particularly notorious Down Hill near Alnwick last night. I think I will keep away from bikes for the next week or so.

Passport sorted after a day of high tension with the incompetent fools at Passport and Identity service in Durham. I'm glad I only have to renew every 10 years although I suspect even then they will still use today's CCTV footage for staff training purposes.
On the plus side, Alfa did another 100 trouble free miles in mixed traffic and also in quite high temperatures in traffic. Starting to relax a little about the prospect of driving a 38 year old car that has sat in boxes for the last two years 1,500 to France and back.

I dont remember seeing that bit in the tour guide smallprint.
Anyway - good news on the passport and shakedown... how did the poorly arm cope?

-
It's not too bad thanks. It's starting to go back to it's normal size. Driving was OK until I had to put the handbrake on which was quite painful.
Forgot to mention.. As I drove through Durham I saw Plenty Sideways Andy walking along which led to meeting up for a pre planning drinky. I suspect he's going to have some space in his car but you didn't hear that from me ;)
Can't wait to get going now. I've just been looking at maps and working out a nice classic friendly route from Caen. I'm thinking breakfast in a place called Putanges Pont Ecrepain. Nice little Hotel in the square next to the river, followed by a scenic cross country route keeping away from the main road and it's traffic.
-
There I was, merrily walking over Milburngate Bridge when I heard something on tin twin 40's - looked up and saw DrS in his GTV !
Sounded the absolute dogs and looked pretty good too. Had a pre-match drinkie in Zen and then me and Ms Sideways had a trip to the Champagne Bar for a pre-LM warm up.
-
I went to work for four hours this morning just to finish all the work off (and myself) been a week of early mornings and late afternoons to get all the work done this week, something to sort out when I get back. Every time I am due leave I have a huge amount of work to cut through - not good enough. Rant over.
Car filled with fuel and tyres checked - yes there are four. Packing tomorrow and got monday off leave Guernsey at about 16.50 (better check that) and staying in Rennes first night then off to Nantes for a little trip.
Quite looking forward to the hole thing (under exaggeration)
See you guys soon.
Anyone going touring first?

A couple of questions from a Classic 'Newbie';
This Dress Code mularkey - how is it enforced, i.e. is it strictly no shorts?, strictly no trainers?. When and where is it applied?. Are denim jeans classified as trousers?
Also, it states that modern cars are not allowed 'into the circuit'. I have a camping ticket for Blue Nord, which I'm assuming is classicfied as outside the circuit so my modern MX-5 is OK. But is that so?
Any advice greatfully accepted.
thanks
Gavin
(Arriving on Thursday 0815 Portsmout Caen, returning Monday mid-day Cherbourg- Portsmouth)
-
Dress code only applies to the paddocks, I believe, and I've walked in there in just shorts and t shirts before now, although I have not gone in on the Saturday or sunday.
We have always camped on MB, which is inside the circuit, and modern cars are allowed in, I think that this applies in the village area, which is not accessable by cars unless you have a special pass.
ACO are, I think, trying to create a Revival type event, as far as dressing up is concerned, without success, you can't tell the French to dress up if they don't want to.
-
OK, thanks for that Barry.
I will come prepared for any occasion.

Last box of parts arrived for the Alfa this morning. All fitted and ship shape. Done the tracking, camber and castor, checked the fluids, checked tyre pressures and given it a good coating of Swissol to finish off. Looking rather splendid and ready to go.
Now clock watching for the 40 odd hours :(

Hi ...LB classmates
NEVER try and drive in Nantes, a, there are toooo many distractions, it is bad enough walking, yes I did some, b, it is bloody as busy as hell - traffic everywhere.
Moving off to LeMans tomorrow so I will be a lot closer... civilisation.
Went to the huge shopping area at Atlantis today where there is an IKEA and big LeClerc plus a monster Decathlon... I have never seen so many people in a sport store, after an hour I was asked to leave as I was not sporty enough - joke...
Soon be there peeps, by the way I am not looking at the weather as it is hot here. Mind you I might as well because all the telly's in the hotel are on the blink!
By the way Si, don't forget to fill er up. AND almost forgot, Happy Birthday.

Fran, Don't do that to me!!!!
You put me into a major panic.
Car papers found after a frantic search though a pile of paper.
Insurance with Car papers.
Passport. Not in the Safe! Not in the Fileing Cabinet! Not in my Briefcase. Not in the Jacket I wore on the way home from the 24 Heures! not in the Study.
Not stashed in my Bed side drawer. Not in the Car. Not in my Rucksack. Not on the floor in my study. (Most likely place BTW). May be M has tidied it away. On her return I asked
"Well I'd have files it in the Holiday Folder" came the reply .
"Oh and where is that kept?" I enquired. "Can you check please".
"No not there!"
Oh Sh**.
Right Don't Panic.
Start systematic Search. re checked Safe, Draws and and Travel bads and Briefcase. No Joy.
Of well I'll have to go though all the stuff in my Study.
Phew! Panic over. Passport found!! ON the floor of my Study. How I didn't spot it be for is a mystery. :( :( :( :( :(

Car packed.....ish,
Stagetruck packed too - 10Kw rig plus full lighting gantry and i have added an infatable Mother, no room for the consessions stand or the over priced bar, I think we will manage.
Now all I have to do is do my deliveries, now i have sorted out the police after my van was broken into last night (thank god it was not the car) for the 2nd time in six weeks, not the way I wanted to start my first ever Classic Le Mans.
All I can say I hope the case of very out of condition wine gives them the sqits......Bar...rds >:(

I remember watching you in the rain, I did help for a short while though until you said you could manage, IIRC
Might be, as you are a Lady, a good idea to keep you away from the SnoreMonster ;D
BTW, I am on the vodka now, not sure if the restaurants will be busy or not tonight, with the football on TV. I was quite surprised last night as people were still turning up at 10.30 fo a meal. Not like that in the UK, they a friend who has arestaurant in Greece says it is nothing for the Greeks and Italians to turn up at 11.30 for a meal, then want to chat until 02.30.

I like your thinking. But my place was on AI and I is the 8th letter. So they may have gone AO == 1 AN and AM == 2 AL == 3 adn so on that would make AI == 6 But why then go to Z and go down the Alphabet?

Yes, I take your point but it was the best explanation I could come up with. The map certainly corresponds with the spaces we had in '09 which were also on the South side of the site.
