The Earth Wind and Fire Experience last year was great - really gave us a chance to exercise the feather boas - has anyone heard anything about 2014?

Here comes the annual bore-fest about the music. 'Who is playing?', 'I hope it isn't a French band, French bands are sh*t', 'Even though they may all be dead, who would you really like to see?' YAWN, YAWN, YAWN. Ever tried watching the motor race? You never know, you might like it.

If it bothers you so much, this thread could have easily been avoided if you simply read the title and moved on old timer.

Some things just have to be said.

It was really full last year, but I guess that you won't be blocking my view this year!
I'm really happy with French bands too - Air, Daft Punk.....

At the Silverstone Classic they had Pink Floyd Reloaded - A German based tribute band who were tremendous. I think they would go down a treat with an LM crowd for a great Friday night concert.
Whilst I have never bothered about seeing a band on Saturday night at LM I do think that if you strip away all of the extra events that go on at the weekend eg the parade, ferris wheel, the village activities, the museum, the antics,....... and the band, the event would become sanitised and lose a big part of what makes it special for all of us, including those that only go to watch the racing.

I couldn't agree more it all adds to the general atmosphere whether you bother with the concert or not and personally i have never been that interested in the acts to bother.
It's like all the sights and sounds it just isn't the same without some sour faced slightly rotund french woman staring me down when heading in to relieve the bladder pressure, or in our case the customary Grand Marnier Crepe at 3am.
The whole event is like a good old woolworths pick n mix if you don't like the aniseed balls you don't have to suck them ;)
-
I dare say some of you out there may think I talk balls, but I can categorically confirm I never suck on them!
;)

Seems the line up this year may well be...
wait for it...
Medi
Hollysiz
Charivari & Renan Luce
Noa Moon
With the headline act being the well known and loved
Alpha Blondy
(Subject to official confirmation)

Looking forward to it now I know who will be playing.
Always worried it will be some fading 80's band.
-
nirvana tribute band would be very apt
-
That should be fun for the French youths ? Hold me back from the stage no seriously hold me back so i don't unplug the Amps >:D

Wwwwhhhhhhooooooo???

Doesn't matter, surely the big screens will be showing some kick-ball action from Brazil ?
-
Highly doubtful. This is France. If they're not interested, they won't be showing it....To Camp Brethren it is then - where there will be plenty of screen availability for showing of "kick ball"
-
What !
No decent concert :o
No decent football ???
If only there was something like a motor race on whilst we were there ::)
Alas another week of drinking French beer and wine
-
This is a good outcome. I always get confused between Le Mans and Glastonbury what with bands I almost want to see at both, now I'm clear.
-
Newcastle Dave,
You are in luck. Alpha Blondy does Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. It's a top track for him/them on Spotify.

Personally, I think I prefer the Floyd version. Just!

Bob Marley meets Pink Floyd!!! It would have been a whole lot better if they hadn't used a stylophone.

Slightly off topic, but music at a race nonetheless. Next Friday the wife & I, and some buddies are heading over to Indy for Carb Day at IMS. It's final practice for the 500, the Indy Lights race, the pit stop competition, and they have a big afternoon concert in the infield. It's become the big party day of the month at the speedway. This year the concert is Sammy Hagar, with Sublime. Last time I saw Hagar he had Michael Anthony playing bass with him, so we'll get a healthy dose of Van Halen.

Now that's a concert!
-
Steve,
Sammy was awesome, for a guy that's sixty-six he can still bring it with a vengance. Did a nice mix of Montrose, his solo stuff, and of course some vitamin VH. Read somewhere that he sold his Cabo Wabo tequila brand to Campari for $91 MILLION bucks. If the guy's performing these days, its for shits & giggles because dude don't need the dosh.

I know we're at risk of going "off topic" but a mixture of Space Station #5 (please tell me he did that!) and Running with the Devil would have sent me away with an indelible grin! Brings back memories of VH on their first UK tour many moons ago.
Happy days.

Hey Steve, yep, we got Space Station, but sadly no Running with the Devil (although its a Roth tune, Hagar does a scorching version of it, when I saw VH in 1986 here in Cincy, they opened with it).
I found the setlist online, what do you think?

Surprisingly, it lends its self quite well to being reggae'd up a bit - have to agree about the bagpipes/stylophone bit though, reckon they could have done batter than that!
