Took the opportunity to ring DFDS this afternoon, the guy was very helpful and said the timetable for June 2016 would be out mid October.
The timetable is up to March 2016 and it appears that the prices are the same as this year £78 return. For those that are over 60, quess that's me, they will also offer a discount of 20% on this price
I was able to get this discount without any problems this year
-
Where do they sail to and from?
-
I have had to think long and hard to this before replying, can't thing of any way to put it so here goes. The ferries sail from Newhaven to Dieppe
-
Well done trusty. You got it first try ;D
There are also ferries going from Dieppe to Newhaven.......which is useful for going back to England
Phil
-
It's all a bit like the hokey cokey really.
-
Used that crossing once but the issue for me is that it's two hours to Newhaven or two hours to Folkestone for me from sunny Southampton.
Given the 4 hour crossing time plus queuing time to get on/off I'm usually in Rouen way ahead of anyone on the crossing.
-
And if you want a really good deal with DFDS....try booking through Travelsupermarket.com, as I have just booked a round trip next weekend Dover Duinkirk for £65.00......whereas DFDS wanted £95.00 for the same crossing :)
-
Don't suppose anyone's spoken to DFDS about the timetable for June?
Their website is guff and just throws a "nothing available" type message when trying to book, but on Aferry, it's only showing the timetable until end of March.
The Portsmouth-Caen route is now looking at nearly £400 before even thinking about reserving seats/cabins etc.
-
Looking at this year, they don't bother with updating their website till January. It always was the Cinderella of ferries.
Before DFDS closed Portsmouth/Le Havre, they swapped boats, with the bigger one going to Dieppe. Perhaps a lease had run out, but I'd have thought P/LH would make more money. I'm just surprised that its lasted so long. I'm also surprised that P/LH didn't make money, when Britney do, but people will pay their prices for a slightly better boat.
With the caravan, Britney is an arm and a leg, so I'll wait till January, and if Dieppe is expensive, go Dover/Calais
And thanks for pointing out the discount
-
I booked last years on the 28th December when the fares came out. It was mentioned on here. £78 return. I have my prayer mat out every day praying for the same deal this year. That was for a car and 2 passengers.
-
I spoke to DFDS last week asking when the timetable for June 2016 will be available. I was told prices etc would be available the first week of December.
-
This year they offered anyone over 60 a 20% discount on this route if you rang and booked over the phone. So get your grandad to give them a call.

::) So I suppose you'll get the 20% discount for "Young people under the age of 25 years" ;)
Thanks for the date correction. I booked on 12th January this year, so thought it must have been January. I must be slowing down - its old age you know :-[
-
Was about to book with these but I then remembered my car is to low and they won't let me use the freight deck as the angle going up on the ramps is to steep (ramp to upper level not the ramp it's self)
So I'll book p&o as its a gradual ramp I have no issues on
-
Kev,
I managed to get my cobra on the Newhaven Dieppe ferry this year and clearance under that is pretty non existent. We were on the upper deck as well.
It's all about your technique ;D
-
Why can't somebody invent a flat ramp - it can't be rocket science. :o
They had a big piece of coconut matting on the lower deck, but with the rear overhang of the caravan its still tight

i managed with Dfds at a random angle but I'll just use p&o lol

Still no fares available as of 14/12/15
As has been pointed out to me by another member of our team this morning there's a footie match between England and Wales in Lens on June 16th.
This is likely to increase tunnel/ferry traffic and therefore it might not take the various operators to increase their prices.
Might just get on and book the tunnel, which is still priced at £158 return.

No change there then ;D

News item from the local wrag Thursday
THE future of the popular Newhaven to Dieppe Ferry Service has been secured for a further two years.
In August the French authorities stepped in and promised to subsidise the service until March next year and they have now gone a step further to guarantee it keeps running until the end of 2017.
The extension represents a huge boost to Newhaven, securing jobs at the port.
The route is owned by the French regional council in Dieppe and managed by Syndicat Mixte de Promotion de l'Activité Transmanche (SMPAT), a public organisation.
They signed the agreement for DFDS to keep running the service in France yesterday.
Peder Gellert Pedersen, executive vice president of the shipping division at DFDS says: "I personally want to congratulate our crews, staff and management in France with this agreement and thank them for their patience over a long period of time."
Carsten Jensen, senior vice president and head of DFDS in the UK, added: “We are extremely pleased as this is good news for customers in the UK, as well as our French and UK staff who work hard to market and operate this excellent and important trade and tourism link between France and the UK.”
DFDS Seaways has operated the Newhaven-Dieppe route since the end of 2012.
Since May the Côte D’Albatre has been joined by the the Seven Sisters ship. There are four daily sailings during the low season and up to six daily sailings between the two ports during the busy summer period.
Under the terms of the agreement, DFDS will continue to be responsible for the marketing and operation of the service and will make the investments necessary for the ships to renew their certificates.

Useful information, thanks.
However there's still nothing showing just now

You can get a bit further this morning with the bookings page coming up with the dates but its still not completed and not working properly. I'm hoping its a work in progress and you'll be able to book any day now. Fingers crossed :-\

Hi Stu, saw that myself and got all excited, rang DFDS the guy was very helpful and said the prices would go up on the 15th Jan. Myself I'm going to keep looking in case it's any earlier, he also mentioned that there would again be a discount for old gits like me, the only advantage of getting old I guess!!
-
I told you it was January :P ;) ;D
Pleased to see that the French are still subsidising it
The times went up yesterday, but there's no prices
-
Hi All
Condor Ferries are offering 20% discount on trips if booked before 23 Jan, if you are traveling from South UK to St Malo.

Thanks, but "No Sailings Found"
Why are the ferries asleep? I have to book flights to France a year in advance before the prices go silly. But then nobody's perfect - they don't fly to Le Mans, do they
-

Believe they do, but at a price!
Landing fees are horrendous LM week I believe.

Don't you think you should tell them that is far too cheap?
How are they going to make a profit on that?

I'm disappointed its £20 more than last year and the times are different :(
-
Remind me, where do they go from and to?

WHO?, we have had a hazy Christmas and days off work - we are NOT mind readers.
Come on Stevie, get it together... :)

Ha ha, I'd forgotten that I'd asked!
I'm keeping it simple - I drive the car onto (into?) a train in Folkestone and it pops out the other end of a tunnel in Calais 25 minutes later.

That is a more sensible price, though departing at 2300 I would have thought it would be cheaper, 1800 return is pretty good, gives a bit of time to shop.
Condor for me is £180 return but they are offering 20% discount and midday (ish) both ways, mind you to get that I have to go on a Monday :) and return on a Monday :) :)

At last, but I forgot the old gits discount in the panic ::)
-
Booked the other day, out Sat 11th - in Tues 21st £98. Bring it on :)

Is that Saturday overnight?
Is this going to cost me a beer?
-
Fear not o' parsimonious one, your wallets safe ;D...its the 9:30 one. Duxford Imperial War Museum on the way down Friday, Premier Inn at Newhaven Friday night. Honfleur Saturday afternoon then 2 nights in Caen. Sunday will be the American landings and then drive down Monday morning to meet the rest of the Liverpool lot at the storage place, arrive at Le Mans after lunch. Did it last year and it makes for a nice relaxing week.
I can't wait :)

Breakfast beer at Utah's a bit far, but give my regards to Point du Honk ;D

Decided that as it's 2 hours to Newhaven, the waiting, 4 hours of the crossing & eventually 3 hours of driving that it's probably quicker to use the tunnel again.
Also cuts out any sea sickness, missing crossing & having to wait hours, and the thought of my passengers sitting in the bar getting lashed whilst I look on all glum like over a sugar free pokey pola.
-
Much as I enjoy the trip nattering with Steve and the lads I have decided I'm way too old to sit for hours on a barely moving M25, so this year I have decided to sit behind traffic to Poole instead
See you there
