I've tried going along to the designated meeting place a number of times now. I've never made it quite on time, but within 20-30 minutes.
I have never found anyone there that I recognised or who looked like they were CA (through the usual giveaways, funny walk, hat/t shirt, wearing a CA flag as a sun hat etc).
Of course, the time clashes with the Saturday night concert, although many of us don't follow Plastic French Pop bands so don't have that problem. (Earth Wind & Fire Experience was really rather good, especially if you were wearing gold lame hotpants and a feather boa).
Two questions:
1 has anyone actually been to the Saturday CA meeting in the last, say 3 years?
2 there was a suggestion a while back to change it to Thursday which I think is a very good idea, I just cannot find who said it or where. So what about it?

I think Thursday night is a great idea and would suggest the Courbe Bar as you are trackside for the evening practice.
-
I have tried for a number of years, unfortunately I have a problem getting my lazy arxe out of my seat - sorry.
Thursday sounds pretty good as I still have a little energy at that time of the week.
It would be really good to see the same amount of people turning up as we used to have at the Champagne bar, also good to get a resurgence into the CA Brand.

I think the Thursday suggestion may have been mine.....
The suggestion was based on Friday not being great because of a wide range of other "dos", and Saturday not great because of the race going on so plenty of people are elsewhere around and about the circuit, concert etc, and there has been a quantum change in the whole pit village atmosphere.
Hence, Thursday during the break between the two sessions might work better these days.
That said, the origins of the CA Saturday meet lie around the cusp of the mobile phone/internet expansion, when a fixed time/place to meet was still handy.

Sorry, what the hell does this mean?

Bit like Del said on one of the other threads - before social meejah really got going and mobile phones/internet became common when visiting abroad, contact was more limited, so having a pre-arranged meeting was helpful.

Thanks Mark
I think you have probably sorted a lot a of minds with your answer, not just mine...
Thanks.

Wasn't Thursday traditionally (but maybe not recently) meet the moose? At the Tertre Rouge bar?

Hi Geoff,
Certainly was for a number of years. 9 pm Thursday between night practices.
I continued to attend the Saturday night gathering up until 2015. In both 13 & 14 there was no one there atleast not anyone that looked as though they were meeting us.
The Grand Marnier Crepe stand was missing and missed this year. My tradition ,started by a suggestion from Grand Fromage himself, was to have a crepe (or 2) at midnight.

My two penny's worth: -
The enormous success of Friday night's Brethren bash now means that most of us bump in to each other on Bleu Nord sometime on Friday night/Saturday morning.
The last time I rocked up to the CA meet there were just 4 of us!
So it seems to me that a pre-arranged Thursday night get together is a good idea. The Courbe bar makes sense and don't make it too late as there's beer to be drunk 8)
-
Yup, I'm liking the sound of a Thursday meet up at the Courbe Bar between the 2 practice sessions - and I'll try to drag Martini's arse up there too.
-
Sounds like we have a plan.
I'm in.
-
Anyone remember the original "tea towels on the head" gathering at the dust bowl shampoo bar. I seem to recall that was the year that the Wailers were the band. Canada Phil might remember presiding over an impromptu wedding ceremony. Happy days!
-
Thursday at 9:00 it is.
I hope to be wearing my flag!

Hi your Lordship.
I was drinking so can neither confirm nor deny your allegations :)
While I recall cries of "Lawrence we love you" Did I really marry some one :o
I used to carry a flag in those days but no tea towel ;D I think the Wailers were the next year but it is all a long time ago and as I mentioned I was drinking....real champagne
I do recall a rather dishy Dutch girl...who never was seen again ???
The present village may be much more efficient but nowhere near the atmosphere of back then.
Steve you have to come to visit Camp UN on BN and if Carrefoure has ice we will have cold beer
Phil
-
Hi Phil, "Lawrence" and the rather dishy Dutch girl were one and the same - Laura. Can't remember what happened to her but then I can't remember much from those evenings.....
Your invitation is gratefully accepted, many thanks

Blimey Steve, I didn't realise there was such a good picture of you two together
:)
I will see you on Thursday evening for one or three
;)
As we won't be on the same boat this time
-
Me too. ;D
-
Me Three ... and this is why it takes a whole week to watch a 24 hour race ;D
lovely to see the old style posts of pictures to convey the message. Steve you were always and continue to be the master of the medium ;)
Phil

Me too....so that'll be most of us meeting on the Thursday at La Courbe, and St Saturnin and BN on the Friday afternoon and evening/night.
Just as well we get some rest when that noisy s***te happens on Saturday and Sunday.....

OK, I'll put that date/time in the 2016 guide

At least that is a shorter hike from BN than the Stella Bar. i will still go to Tetre Rouge for the first session of night practice. Are we planning already :o
Phil
-
Phil,
Indeed, I think we are......
MG Mark
-
That's good for me.
Phil as we missed each other last year, we are on terte rouge again, so keep an eye out for the Club Arnage flags and inflatable rhino nearer the grandstand end of the campsite.

Hi Paul,
I just posted comments to your scaffold question. The Rhino should be easy to find.

After the Courbe Bar is there a "Rhino Meet" on Tetre Rouuge?
(I know what Phil means about getting in - I was there two years ago and it was tricky getting out!!!)
-
I know not everyone's cup of tea......
Euro Footy Championships - England v's Wales is Thursday 16th June k.o. 15:00
-
It is mos def my cup of tea!
I take it there will be a decent viewing area around which we can congregate.

That seems the only problem Lord Steve. You can always stand the other side of the fence and watch us drinking ;D
-
Yay, camping on Tertre Rouge so an easy date, me and Mrs Me will be there!

Very happy to do that as long as you lob the odd cold one over the fence from time to time.......

Howzat?

Thursday is no problem.
Saturday, still be down at Mulsanne :)

Seems like we need to make the effort to resurrect some CA shirts, I always take some with me but unsure if everyone else does, The other option is to do a new one, we do have time.
Simplest option is to just have the front element as always with the new date, I used to have the artwork but not sure if it was the correct colour I seem to remember Rusty had the last artwork. I will look in my files.the 2006 or 08 was a different colour... or was that a dream.

2006 seems such a long time ago when we had Steve on the back.

It seems to me the original purpose of the CAMeet was an introduction in real life.
After so many years i dwindles away to nothing.
NOW it is much more of a REUNION gathering for seeing people we have not seen for a year or in some cases many years.
Warning: Any meeting of this scale is akin to herding cats ;D

Spot on - in the flesh beyond the forum and we need to welcome relative newbies too.
As for herding cats, indeed. And the cats are blindfolded. And it's foggy.....

Now shirts I can do. And it appears that I need a bigger size too. Flags are a sore point though.

She it.... I still have my original green 1997 CA shirt I got from the GF at Autosport show always wore it in the Champoo bar meet. (Needs greasing to slip it on these days)

Are we all confirmed at 9pm Courbe Bar?
It would be a shame if we didn't all get together this year!

Thursday, 9pm Courbe Bar, we'll be there. Looking forward to meeting you all at last!
I believe this'll be in the guide so...no excuses...
-
Liking the sound of Thursday, a pit stop en-route to the Stella Bar.
-
Well, that really has cleared it up... Thursday then.

Oh Thursday then,that's a bugger :o
Is there anything happening on the Saturday night I wonder?
I noticed it's always a bit noisy in the tent on Saturday night.................
OK Thursday it is :)

Ade JW, Pete and me will be there.
Now where's that brolly!
-
What day was this then?
Oh yes in four nights time
See y'all
;)
-
I'll do my best to get there too, depending on where I'll be during first practice.
Will be out shooting somewhere at the back end of the track, could be a pain to get back if traffic is too busy.
Do we still have a Saturday meet too ?
-
Tetre Rouge?
-
My apologies for missing the meeting. It appears my legs stopped working. Nothing to do with the many pints of ale i had....

Well, to those of us that made it, well done for avoiding the biblical rain that delayed the second quali session. Good to see you.
-
Very disappointed to have missed, mainly due to the biblical rain mentioned above and the easy access to quantities of Afligem and vino in our tent. I had also become quite refreshed in town that afternoon and was feeling a little 'tired'
Here's to next year...
