One of the all-time greats, the first and likely last world champ on both two & four wheels. Also the first Can-Am champion.  One of the bravest, and most talented men to ever race a car or bike, the footage of him dominating the 1966 Belgian Grand Prix from the movie Grand Prix is stunning proof.

Sad news. One the racing heroes of my childhood.

A great racer and gentleman in the truest sense of both, and inspired many people. Privileged to see and meet him when he was the star of the Lola anniversary with a parade of race cars through the town, ending in the market square. Similarly, when he got out of his car after driving it up the hill at Goodwood FOS last year, laughing and joking with all around.

A race run well and long. RIP.

This is a tribute to John, fron Dan Gurney. http://allamericanracers.com/john-surtees/
After the passings in recent years of the likes of Phil Hill, Chris Amon, Jack Brabham, and ll Grande John, there are only a handful of the greats left, who tanscended the old romantic era of racing to the modern incarnation of the sport. Dan, and Sir JYS are still with us, we need to appreciate their presence & greatness, we will not see their likes again...
