Early outing for blue-and-orange.

Questions;

Why is this car significant for it's manufacturer?

What day of the week was this pic taken?

It's the Claude Ballot-Léna/Jean-Louis Marnat Marcos Mini GT 2+2 - BMC in 1966.
Significance to manufacturer? Dunno apart from it being the only British car to finish.
Day of the week. Hmm, dunno again - maybe Saturday, as it rained most of Sunday. :-\

Yes, it IS the 1966 Mini Marcos. It WAS the only British car to finish but failed to win the Motor prize due to it's French drivers. But thats not the significant thing I had in mind for BMC or Marcos.

It was the Saturday, but it's not the lack of rain. It's something on the car that tells you.

Oh yes, they took the headlamp covers off on Saturday night. They are still there in the photo!!

Bullseye!

Now why is this car significant to Marcos?

Well I got Saturday right, I didn't think it would still be running on Sunday.

I can't remember Marcos running at Le Mans before, was it their first

You missed the point. It finished the race and was classified. The headlamp covers were removed during the night to improve the optics of the lights. As you can see, they are on in this shot so it must be Saturday. As for Marcos at Le Mans, the've contested the race seven times. Latest participation was 1997 if I recall correctly. But to answer your question, no it was not the first Marcos at Le Mans, that was the gullwing in 1962.

I give up.  Its a strenghten lightweight shell, front wheel drive, which is unusual, probably the first built in France, and it finished last, although I have evidence that it was leading at one point.  Did it have 6 rear view mirrors>

It may have been last, but a solo entry with a tiny 1275 BMC engine it was a classified finisher and 15th place and the only British car to run the distance. Something it's more high profile latter-day Marcos 500LM and 600LM failed to do, even with a two car team.
