Portsmouth to Le Havre
« on: October 05, 2009, 05:16:08 pm »
This could be good news for those of us who live at the fashionable end of the Channel

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8290398.stm

Hoping for a faster crossing at a cheaper rate.

Fingers crossed

Maybe we should pool resources to try and get a group discount!

That's not a silly idea.

I already have one passenger with me for 2010, other tbc.

Will probabley be the end of the overnight service though.
I don't think any of the cat services run at night.
Which will only leave Brittany if you want to do an overnighter.

True, but for those of us who live close to Pompey the thought of an early ferry crossing & same day arrival at LM is not an unpleasant one, is it?  ;D

Might have an affect on Brittany Pirates prices?

I've been checking prices recently and there are no western Channel crossing prices yet.

Down at the other end: -

Norfolk Line £45
P&O £60
Sea France £80

Need to get my spread sheet out to calculate at what cost a western Channel crossing becomes more affordable, what fun!

Brittany opened up their booking system to cover June and July yesterday.
Booked for our trip to the Classic with them already.

I agree with FS.  Pompey just seems easier, you get a few beers in the bar, and a short drive the other side, but its does cost.  For me its about 12 hours door to door either way at the minute, and spending most of that time on the boat is far easier.  Now Le Havre will be quicker but at Brittany prices

£176 Pompey to Caen.

Just beats driving via Dover by £20.

Time is a few minutes longer via Pompey.

BUT, as Lorry says there's time for relaxation/beer while onboard!

But with a Seacat on the Le Havre route, you won't have time to sleep it off.

Mind you, if we're there 4 hours earlier, thats another 4 hours on the Kanterbrau

What are your crossing dates / times to get that price?

It only offers me crossings around the £290 mark.

I have two: -

Out Pompey/Caen Weds 9th 08:00 :: Return Caen/Portsmouth Monday 14th 15:30 2 x pax and 1 x "normal" car. That was £176

The other is: -

Out Pompey/Cherbourg Weds 9th  8:00 on the catamaran :: Return Cherbourg/Poole Monday 14th 11:30.  Same load as above.  That was £181.

Thanks for that, Paul.

I see my problem......I am being greedy and trying to go Monday - Monday.

Hmmm, maybe time to review my plans.

We booked last Thursday, Brittany Ferries fast service.
Portsmouth/Poole - Cherbourg
Thursday 10th @07.15
Monday 14th @11.15
£159 for a regular car.
Bargain, in my opinion.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem.
