Having thought long and hard about this though, I am of the opinion, that the best place to watch the football is likely to be at the Tetre Rouge Stella Bar, or the Guiness Bar in the village - SURELY they'll have the game on?

Based on the volume of beer being drunk by English patrons, almost certainly!

As an aside, I was in a sports bar in London watching the Belgian GP once (the one where micky cobbler ran into the back of DC I think) and they switched it over to footie half way through,  almost everyone drunk up and walked 10 yards down the road to the next pub which had the GP on! Talk about not understanding your customers!
Of course I buy green cars, my Aston is green, my MGB is green, my Disco Sport is green,  oh, that's not what you meant by green?

Tertre Rouge should have the football on, at least they had it on in the past. Don't know about the Guiness bar.

Football doesn't interest me, but as far as I can see, the schedule looks like this:

Friday, June 11
4pm - South Africa v Mexico
8.30pm - Uruguay v France
Saturday, June 12
1.30pm - South Korea v Greece
4pm - Argentina v Nigeria
8.30pm - England v USA
Sunday, June 13
1.30pm - Algeria v Slovenia
4pm - Serbia v Ghana
8.30pm - Germany v Australia

There will be no problem finding somewhere to watch the Friday evening game, but are any of the local bars really likely to be showing a game during the race ???

I do seem to remember, Christopher, that one year a UK-involved footie match was shown on a big screen in the village (must have been in '98 I think.)  It was lovely and peaceful round the circuit at the time.... ;)

Dont forget guys to add 1 hour on if you are looking at UK times of kickoff.

The times I posted are Le Mans local times.

In the UK I believe the World Cup games are always shown on Terrestrial TV??????? What channels are showing it in France?

If it's the same, surely all we need is a Terrestrial Tuner Box and a standard aerial and a screen?? Or is that trying to simplify things too much?

I have a USB TV Tuner that picks up UK TV OK on my laptop, maybe that would work?

Christopher? Debs? John?

Given that they're on Terrestrial, a freesat box will be sufficient (which I should have up and working by LM).

I have a projector as well - I'm going to speak with Rex and work out whether we can build a scaffolding based canopy on the side of the popemobile, thus shading the screen, and providing a good view of the picture.

At the moment it's all a bit up in the air though :)

JPC, if the footie is on TNT (the French equivalent of Freeview/sat) then yes, I think you must be correct.  But as I don't have a conventional aerial I don't know for sure (I get my French TV via Canal+ as it includes Motors and Eurosport) and as neither of the Termites has the slightest interest in the sight of 22 blokes kicking a ball about..... (real men pick them up and run with them, don't you know? ;))

Indeed I do Termie, hence why I am a season ticket holder at London Irish!  :)

But I'm also a football fan, and pretty much a fan of all sports!

Looks like French broadcasts will be on either TF1 Group or Eurosport.

I seem to recall some dicussion before (probably 4 years ago) about UK TV's not being compatible with French transmissions? Any ideas?

Very few modern UK TVs are incompatible, if any.

French terrestrial TV is digital, so no compatibility problems.

Yes the football is being broadcast on terrestrial TV in France. A TV with digital tuner and conventional aerial will pick that up. All matches over Le Mans w/e are on TF1, except

Saturday 12 June:
13h30 Korea - Greece - France 3

Sunday 13 June:
16h Serbia - Ghana - France 2
20h30 Germany - Australia - France 2
