Hardly so. there were 408 starters this year, 400 in 2008 and 396 in 2006. Divided between six classes, there's no significant increase.

Would be interested if you knew how the visitor numbers compare to previous years - it certainly seemed absolutely packed with people in all the walkway areas - esp the bit where you come out from the tunnel on the inside behind the pits (where the tour buses were parked) - that was jammed with pedestrians, race cars,  VIP transport, pit support vehicles (saw one guy getting his legs squished between two quad bikes which looked kinda painful in the traffic jam)etc.

There were certainly more campsites open this time too.

The relevant figures are:-

2002 30,000

2004 50,000

2006 70,000

2008 82,000

2010 103,000

2008 82,000

2010 103,000

Just over 25% increase on the last event, thats quite a jump!

No clash with Goodwood this year probably made a difference.

I'm not so sure that one week would make a lot of difference, I doubt that there are that many people who would do both unless they were a good month apart.  Also the FoS is a different event,  the Revival is more similar to LM Classic.
Of course I buy green cars, my Aston is green, my MGB is green, my Disco Sport is green,  oh, that's not what you meant by green?

Totally different events but both appeal to petrolheads. There were quite a lot of cars around the campsite and at the port with Goodwood Passes still in the window too. I'm not suggesting that the extra 20,000 punters were all down to Goodwood but it will have been a contributing factor.

The FoS surely does affect the entry though, if not necessarily the punters.

Thanks for the correction, Kpy, of course you are quite right.  Although the "coal face" types seem to be the same - same faces in the grandstands etc.

I am sure some of the spectator growth is down to folk skipping the main event in preferance for classic . I know of a couple of groups who much prefer the calssics more relaxed atmosphere . And some of this exodus  prompted by the more unruly behaviour of the last 2-3+years. (lets not start that debate though!)
