Antivirus/Internet Security Advice pls

Well I have been lucky to get away with having no internet security for the last five years or so, but am going off to buy a new laptop later today and want to make sure i get the right security set up from the start.

What would you recommend? (free or paid for - I dont mind so long as it works and doesnt keep fouling up the computer by blocking everything!!).

I've been perfectly happy with AVG free and have had no viruses in the 8 years I've been using it.  But that's not to say I won't get one tomorrow of course.  Don't touch Norton if you don't want your pc tied up in knots.

Avast is free and is very good.

Avast is my preferred anti-virus solution, free and easy to use, good security. I use the windows firewall and added windows defender, to scan for malicious programs. So far I did not have any issues with virusses or trojans.

Avast all the way , I used to use AVG but have found that the later versions seem to tie up the PC in a way that Norton used to.

One more for AVG. I have had no problems with it. One point to bear in mind is to make sure that you scan your computer regularly with any anti virus. Also only run 1 anti virus programme.

Yep AVG here too for those systems that need it.   Not really tried any others but AVG seems to keep the systems I have to maintain in a good state.

Or of course you could use Linux then you are much less  vulnerable.

Oh and yes Linux is user friendly.  But it is choosy about it's friends. :-)

Help keep yourself safe & DON'T use Internet Explorer.

More [security] leaks than a sieve.

Go for Firefox or Chrome.  Chrome especially good.

Better still run Safari, on a Mac!

We use McAfee, which seemed to work until last week, when we received an email asking for £60 for next year.

Strangely, on Amazon.com its only £30 for a 3 machine licence.

Its so refreshing to know that there are still people out there that are happy to rob their existing customers, and its not just the banks and the insurance companies

If you bank with Barclays online they will give you Kasparsky free of charge. bit fussy but is seems to work ok.

ive used for the last 5yrs ,ESET NOD32 ,You pay £20 a year, PC industry anti v tool, couldnt recommend enough.
excellent customer sevice too
