I did visit it, with Gilles and Grand Fromage, who took a few snaps.
To get the site:
Go out of Maison Blanche and turn left towards the crossroads (now a roundabout). At the crossroads, turn left to go under the track (as though you are going to Beasejour). Carry on under the track, a short while after going under the bridge the field is on the right.
My own opinion, honestly, and not wanting to upset Gilles etc...
1) It would be a bit of a trek to get anywhere
2) Most people already know where they like camping, and also have already booked their tickets for 2004
3) It may be too expensive anyway, compared to ACO camping - but ACO has definitely gone up this year
4) We would probably not manage to get the number of people required to fill it and make it economically viable
On the plus side:
1) Gilles reckoned electricity, toilets/showers and all kinds of things (hospitality tents, minibus service to various places etc) might be possible
2) For those who do NOT have camping booked, it would be a godsend
3) You'd be camping with your mates from the CA website (or is that a negative??)
Anyway, I think Dave was going to post some of the pics, although the field is, at the mpment, just like a jungle. It's a good size btw, and although the road is usually inaccessible during the race, Gilles said that passes to get in and out wouldn't be a problem.
You can probably tell that I am sceptical about the idea. The rest of my group have very little to do with CA and go to see the race rather than socialise, and I really think the location would not be acceptable to them, compared to the convenience of Maison Blanche which they are used to. However, if it went ahead, I would do my best to persuade them to try it out.
Let's wait to see what Grand Fromage has to say...
