Good evening all. I've just received a bill from Le Mans General Hospital following Jonathan's collapse on MB in June for 1700 Euros for treatment and transport (which I take to be the emergency ambulance). Jonathan had an E111 card and travel insurance and upon his release from hospital I spoke to his doctor who assured me that there would be no charge. I have a written statement to this effect from her. At no time was he asked to produce the E111 card. Is this a case of Jonathan simply paying the bill and claiming back the cost through the E111 system?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

I presume you have claimed through your travel insurance already? if so, just forward it on to them. Any medical bill should be done via your insurance.
After getting run over at LM in 2005, i received a bill from them, advised my insurance and forwarded it on. Got a chaser quite a few months later, I ignored it and never heard anymore.

You are not entitled to the full costs via your EHIC (it hasn't been an E111 for years, btw). You are only entitled to what a French person gets. Thus ambulances have to be paid for, as to do daily room costs and 30% of almost everything else. Over here many (indeed most) of us have top-up insurance to cover the rest and your travel insurance will do the same for you, Steve. The EHIC is NOT the equivalent of travel insurance, it only gives you what the citizens of the country you're visiting get. Tough but true. My own top-up insurance has already coughed up nearly 100,000€ since my accident - all of which has to be claimed back from the lorry driver's policy! Having said that, I do know of some people who have manged to swing it via the UK social security system so you should give it a go, nevertheless.

Morning Steve,
I'm sorry to hear that mate, if it's not one thing, it's another.
I usually find sending a turd through the post normally works in matters such as this. It manages to convey a certain level of disdain mixed with indifference, with just a hint of disrespect.
I hope this helps. Anything else, just ask.

Steve, I read with concern about your son when we got back. Did they determine what the problem was, and trust all is well now?

After my 2010 incident it appears that I made the right decision in pocketing all related paperwork on my departure from the medical centre. Naughty but I was under the influence and had Lord Zarse as a mentor.

Good to see you back on line Rex, where have you been? Or would you prefer to regale us with the tale at LM?

Thanks to all for your advice and responses. Jonathan had both an EHIC card (Sorry Debs, Not E111 as I said) and travel insurance. The Department of Health and Other Stuff have advised me that, as Debs said, I'd have a smaller bill for ambulance etc, the same as a French citizen and that they'd pursue this on my behalf so the position looks a little brighter. Andy: I'll cover the rest with travel insurance. Debs: Thanks for the advice - hope you're recovering sweetheart Andy Z: Jonathan is still having scans and blood tests but it appears that his wobble was due to dehydration (let that be a lesson to us all - he simply hadn't drunk enough beer) but the tests have revealed a B12 deficiency and suspected pernicious amemia. His doctor has suggested an alternative diet of Monster Munch! Big H: Having just dealt with a chicken pathia, onion bhaji, mushroom rice, poppadoms and pickles I'm letting the sieze cent soixante quattre brew the solids into a festering mass before expertly dropping it into a zip bag for delivery to those responsible. (Apologies to those of a delicate constitution)
Thanks again friends

Some time out was required after a multitude of misery inducing elements in the world of PP. However, things are mended and terrible plans are being formulated in the lab at the refurbished PP Towers. Watch this space....... its diesel!!
