Looks like the aco have decided on a massive erection on the pit straight. Not sure what it is but Michelin are sponsoring it, think it may be a rrunning position display?

Its position will affect the view down the straight from the Dunlop chicane end.
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.

You mean the ugly upside-down giant hockey stick?

...and quite a view-blocker for folks on the ACO terrace.

Yep that's the one.

Found the link as you posted. What is it?

New scoreboard/infoboard "A new landmark, to keep the fans up to date with the race" ... that's how they announced it on the pressconference.  Comparable with the towers used at Nascar tracks with the race standigs.

No.  Its looks about as useful as a wet f@rt in a thunderstorm

A proper Daytona style tower would have made more sense. What they have done is just half-assed and ugly bit of Michelin promo.

If you're going through hell, keep going.

That's going to f**k up the good spot on the terraces we found last year : (
Don't think it will effect the view from the ACO grandstands, but we will see.

Agree
But how about this.... Whats wrong with the pit boards, gonna be awkward for drivers looking up at this whilst going nearly full bore at the end of start finish straight with the pit lane ahead of them.
Looks like they had less much design sense than a slug on salt! lol

The Daytona score pole that shows the top 15 places in a field of 75 is not much use (better than nothing)
The Indy Pole shows 33 places for a field of 33 ( hell of a concept) however it is pretty damn high so for 56 (we are up to 56 aren't we ?) it would be a really tall pole. With modern LCD type displays I do not see why score boards could not be located around the track. With wifi easy to keep them up to date. An informed consumer (race Fan) is a return comsumer.

What a monstrosity!

The ACO marketing blurb tells how it is another 'benefit' for the race fan, but aren't there quite a few methods already used to communicate race positions etc?  The timing screen info is frequently displayed on the diamond vision big screens, the top runners in each class have illuminated markers on the cars, hell there's RLM and the local broadcast blaring out, not to mention text updates on your mobile if that's your thing.

As others have already mentioned it'll screw the view from the terraces towards the pit exit and Dunlop.

Will certainly remind me not to buy any Michelin products though  ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when was the last time the ACO gave a tinker's cuss about it's members or 'regular fans' who keep the race going? Unless it's corporate and they are paying gazillions of euros it seems to me that nobody in La Sarthe is listening ....

I'm sure that I read that it's only going to display the top 3, but having said that I now cannot find the article again so I may be mistaken.
