Best route to avoid Rouen

Still cant decide which way to go to avoid Rouen from the tunnel, went through ok last year but lost 2 of the six cars in our convoy. coming back on the monday was a pain for the traffic and badly posted diversion signs but somehow we stayed together. only 3 cars this year so it should be easier!!!!
Im thinking of heading for Yvetot and cross the Pont de Brotonne then down the N138. can anyone tell me what Yvetot is like to get through and how much extra time it probably would take. or is there a better option.

We were in two cars last year and knew about the potential for hold ups due to the bridge works so one car took the traditional route, down through the tunnel and through the city centre. The other car left the A28 just north of Rouen and took the D1043 in the direction of Maromme. Then take the A150 South which crosses the river at Pont Gustave Flaubert. Then you're back on the N338 towards the E402 and South to Le Mans.
I didn't have any real problems getting through the city by the traditional route and both cars met at the next services within 5 minutes of each other.

We left the A28 some way north of Rouen and went via Yvetot, both ways.  Coming back Sunday after the race other members of our party used this route as well and reckon that after Rouen they were passing cars they had already passed on the way up to Rouen so the inference was that the route through Rouen was quicker.

Through Rouen is the shortest route and has the potential to be quickest but also the risk of getting stuck.  So you can take a longer route and be more certain about time, or gamble on the direct route.

Tried Yvetot last year, not good due to a half hour tail back at the tolls at the end of the A29.
Re overtook some very slow traffic north of Rouen that I had passed south of the city.
Will take my chances going through Rouen on the way back this year.

About £165 for me and the car, early booking, that is for the Classic Wed-Mon. Checked for LM24 and about £175, but can vary with different days to over £200.00

Getting back to the Rouen problem -
1st I agree with Barry and others who have found that the Yvetot/Brotonne route is probably a slower one.
2nd, if you follow the official signs round Rouen on the return on the Sunday you will run into the same queues for the toll on the A29 near St Saens.
I live only 35 minutes from Rouen - here's my alternative route to the A13 while the Pont Mathilde is out of action. It works well both ways:

thaks to all for the info,leaving Sunday night for Monday morning tunnel crossing going  to go through Rouen same as last year then prob do the A28 or the D438 depends on how we feel. coming back no idea yet lol.

Just to bump this thread in time for the Classic with an update:
The Grande-Mare tunnel on the N28 is closed southbound until 8 August.
This is causing massive problems and the east side of Rouen is best avoided.
The signed HGV westerly route is the quickest:

but you might like to take the scenic route via Yvetot and the Pont de Brotonne.
Neufchatel and Bourgtheroude are just arbitary points to create the map.

For information the tunnel is open northbound, but is restricted to one lane.
