Water at the circuit
« on: June 26, 2014, 09:10:41 pm »

In past years I'm sure that there were mains supply cold water available at most of the toilets but this year often I couldn't find them.

I object to buying bottled water at silly prices and am quite happy with the local mains supply.

I don't think that the Guide includes any information on where you can get mains water, but it would probably be of value.

I know that there is a tap at the toilets by Dunlop on the infield, and a temporary one by the medic station at the back of the Dunlop grandstand.

Does anyone know of any others?

There is a water fountain at the bottom of the stairs of Dunlop on the outside of the circuit. (it was working)

There are also taps and standpipes available in the main facilities in the village. (the RED building)

Can remember if there was anything in the old (pee against the wall) toilets at the outside of the pit straight behind the Grandstands??

There are taps and standpipes in all the modern toilet blocks built over the last few years - in the village (two), on the path between the south entrance and the Dunlop bridge for starters. Likewise in the toilets in the support paddock, but you need a pass to get into that paddock during the 24 Hours.
I appreciate the wish not to pay silly prices for water, but  bottled water is available from local supermarkets (current price at Auchan) from around 17 cents (under 14p) for a day's intake (1.5 litres).

There is a stand pipe on the insde of tetre rouge, just before the cafe, another almost
oppisite on the other side of the track.

Behind the "fairground" there was 1 or 2 but the fair people had those tapped.

There are a few along the start straight against the wall, look for the wet patches, well
actually no, look for the wet patches that are sort of not yellowish and smelly.

They are there, just need to look for them, most people nowdays seem to want to pay for and
cart around full bottles from Carrefour.

Most campsites have several as well

What is this water thing of which you speak? I only know it as an ingredient of beer.

I'm looking for builds and updates.

This year I struggled to find many of the water outlets that others have listed.

Bottled water really pi••see me off.  For one the cost and second the environmental impact.

My casual investigation was not exhaustive  but this is what I found:

Main straight outside outlets - couldn't see any.
Toilet blocks in the village: no,
Behind the pits (inside track): no,
Toilet block near the concert area/Dunlop bridge: no - although there is a standpipe at the medical post, but inside the fenced off area.
Dunlop Bridge outside water fountain: yes
Toilet block inside near Dunlop Bridge: yes

so, I only found one useful water tap.

There were about 7 water taps on the inside of Tetre Rouge, one about every 100 yards.
