Mc Crae?
« on: January 05, 2004, 10:59:24 am »
Now I might be a bit late here, but I read at the weekend that Colin McCrae was in talks with Ferrari about driving the 2004 race.  Anyone know anything else?

there was a bit about it in Autosport (Jan 1st) - possibility of CM driving a 550 Maranello in 2004 (didn't they sound GOOOOOD last year?). What I don't understand tho is the fact that MacRae is supposed to be talking to Care Racing, which puts it all together (moneywise) for Prodrive. And who owns Prodrive?  None other than David Richards - about whom Mr Macrae has been somewhat less than complimentary recently with regard to a Subaru WRC drive in Richard  Burns' absence...........   "Don't do as I say - do as I do" !!! ::) ::)

It would be nice to see his style on the track , a 550 sideways.  ;D

Why DR??  I agree with Robbo, flicking a 550 sideways through the Mulsannne Chicannes could be great.

Must admit, it would be interesting to see how he would fare.  There have been some top rally drivers who have made very successful transitions to sportscar racing, Vic Elford & Gerard Larrousse immediately spring to mind. Not always the other way around. Anyone remember some of Derek Bell's stabs at the RAC?  Derek? oh Derek? DEREK! SMASH, BANG,CRASH!!
Things have become so specialzed today....would be interesting.

He would probably spend any time not on track complaining and generaly being a prima-donna wanting more money for his next stint....

It seems to work that way round but not the other, which probably means that rally drivers need more "feel", natural driving ability and car control than circuit racers.   Seems that the Dakar is working out for him so far, sitting third overall........

I would hope that anyone like that wouldn't last long at Le Mans then...........
