Photos from Spa 1972
« on: April 18, 2017, 08:55:38 pm »
Came across this nice little batch of photos from the 1972 Spa 1000 kms.  With the Spa 6 Hours coming up soon, thought it would be appropriate to post a link to them.  Some evocative shots, really gives a feel for what sports car racing in the early seventies was like.  Security was a lot different back then, nothing like the sight of spectators sitting on the armco!  Great days...

Smashing. Really wish I had been around back then. Dad took me to LM in 79 but apart from the fairground and chips with Mayo on, I cannot remember anything about it (not much change there then)

Great stuff !!!
Shows also how many things have changed (and some haven't) over all those years.

Anyone coming over to Spa for the Spa classic next month ?

I love stumbling across old photos like these, taken by someone who was there just a paying punter with some friends.  They always give a great feel for the atmosphere of the event and venue.  Racing in the seventies was so less formal, and clinical than today.
This is another batch that I found a couple of years ago from the 1978 Austrian GP, once again the photos really convey the vibe of the race meeting.

yeah, you are right. The 80s were great days. These days my father owned a mini and every weekend we used to go to the beach. You made me remember those beautiful memories.

Couldn't help but notice how well dressed just about everyone was in those photos.
