2020 will be very interesting.
Even though I have been very disappointed with the race, especially the LMP1 class, especially this year, I have decided to soldier on to see these cars.
I'll be 62, it will be my 19th Le Mans and I will make a decision then wether to attend my 20th, or watch it from home.
I hope they have got it right.

This will lose...nay, has lost...me :( :
https://assets.lemans.org/explorer/pdf/courses/2018/fia-wec/fia-wec-regulations-2020.pdf

Especially:
"New 2020 WEC LMP1 hypercar regulations revealed including success ballast

In a bid to avoid “extreme development budgets”, the new 2020 cars will be required to carry success ballast linked to how many championship points they have scored. The weight will be added in increments of half a kilo per point up to a maximum of 50kg."

Nothing like some good ol' socialism, huh? Punish the successful. Wonderful... ::)
May as well have Dallara build one car for everyone, throw some different stickers on for variety, and voila, instant BoPing. Isn't that fun.... :'(

It's been a nice ride for me since '65...

SO - does it mean that 2020 will actually be a MIXED grid of current LMP1's (which are homologated for 2019 / 2020 Super-season) AND the new Hypercar regulation cars?

Forgive me if I have missed something.

Or - does the Hypercar class at LM effectively start in 2021?
Baldrick, my Lord! But I can change it to Ploppy if it'll make things easier.

Current privateer LMP1Ls will be 'grandfathered' for the 2020/21 season to race alongside the new Hypercars or whatever they are called by then

If its like before, they'll handicap the old LMP1s, to ensure that the Hypercars win, but they will all break down. ;D

Apologies for such scepticism so early in the week

They have, at the moment the best top end sports car regs in the world IMHO, best cars, best races.
Why change something that's not broke in the short/medium term?

A major blow has been dealt to the ACO and FIA World Endurance Championship’s plans with the cancellation of Aston Martin Racing’s Hypercar program utilizing its new Valkyrie road car.
RACER has learned a formal announcement is imminent. Reached Monday, a brand representative declined to comment on the topic
