Anyone know where there is a shop for fireworks in Le Mans.

Due to changes in the law regarding fireworks in the UK it is harder to find good bangers now.

Try calling Farnham Fireworks in Farnham,Surrey.

They make their own.......just a long shot!!!!......to coin a phrase.

I will contact my mechanic's son .........he works for them setting up displays,as I cannot seem to find the phone number on directory enquiries.

Of course I know that point...

... it's "L'ARLEQUIN" (akas the harlequin on the other side of the pool) and it's Rue Nationale so between the Jacobins Square and the circuit driving by the city centre.

Stu can you mail me my map so I'll add this point on it

Does anyone know the actual laws regarding taking fireworks over.

I believe the ferry rules say you can't take them??  But then they also say you can't take full gas bottles yet they carry thousands of caravans every year, most of whom have full gas bottle. When we had a caravan we never got asked or searched and I don't know anyone else who did. How about you Smokie, any experiences??

Main reason I ask is that Fireworks Direct in Surrey are having a half price closing down sale. We got some from them at the weekend for a friends birthday party and they were great. Big bangs, great effects. They are open ofr their last day next Saturday so was thinking of grabbing a load to take with us.

Never tried taking 'em over, but you are right - very few searches at Dover for "contraband". ISTR that you aren't supposed to have topped up fuel tank but I always do (company fuel!)

Although I did hear that they were being extra vigilant over what people had in their packed lunches when foot and mouth was rampant

Checked with  a few friends -

Its all to do with the carrige of dangerous goods at sea and maritime laws.

I have NEVER seen any cars being searched at Porsmouth , except those of criminal interest.

The only problem is that the authoraties musrt search a certain percentage of cars with the very high security levels we are at.

JP can you post more detaisl of the fireworks. It maybe work the 40 mins drive .

If i find some here i will take them in the trailer , with all then rest of the gas bottles , petrol for the generater and fire lighters, charcoal.......

The store is called Fireworks Direct. I'll obtain the proper address and phone number and post later.

They had single ignition boxes for £35, £50 and £70.  However, all their stock is now half price so make that £17.50, £25 and £35. From memory they lasted 49 seconds, 73 seconds and 97 seconds respectively. Now, although this doesn't sound like a long time, we had one of the "cheap" ones and it was fantastic. Probably the best non-profesisonal display firework I have ever seen. It may have only been 49 seconds but it felt like much longer as it was 49 seconds of intense bangs, flashes, sub flashes etc etc. It lit the whole sky. I'll certainly be going back for more.
We also got some other multi shot cakes, reduced down to £5 and £8 that were good too. Their mid range rockets were good value when reduced to £6 for 4 but the big rocket we bought (was £24 reduced down to £12) was a bit of a disappointment. It stood 6'6" on it's stick and the actual head was 13" long. It went up like a space shuttle, probably into the Heathrow flight path, and left a 12" wide burnt ring of grass below it but it only resulted in one large straburst with a decent bang. A very good rocket but with it's size and initial price we were expecting something really special!

That's a bit disconcerting Huh In the last 10 years we have been stopped and pulled into the customs shed 4 times on the outward leg on the journey for the contents of the car to be examined and questions about our journey asked.

Never thought we looked particularly criminal, well not in comparison to our fellow travellers anyway  Smiley
