For 2024 I've decided to forego the 7 hour ferry trip and Midnight arrival back at Portsmouth (therefore 2am arrival back in London) and gone for the shorter crossing (but much longer drive in France) on thew Eurotunnel.
If I was you, I wouldn't start from here

I'm tempted to go Britney, but with a caravan, you didn't get much change out of a grand, once you've added the cabins

Hi all, long time no post...

I'm out of touch with crossings and as I'm rising from years of non-attendance slumber and now thinking of 2024, what do the crossings look like from a pricing point-of-view in the post-Covid world?

To add a new 'twist' to my journey plans I'm either going to use the newly-purchased electric car, or my wife's somewhat smaller, petrol-powered Corsa with limiting space that will force me to only take essential kit rather than previous years when providing for Team Alan.

Thanks

Hi Paul

Ferry prices have unsurprisingly gone up but I don't think excessively on the routes I use.
As usual best prices, especially LM week, were to be had when they opened the booking window, now going up. Prices lower if you can avoid peak LM travel windows. One of the pluses of being retired.
Chunnel prices on the other hand seem to be extortionate. Price about the same as BF Pompey Caen IF you are a club voyage member.
Lot of the south coast guys use Newhaven/Dieppe cheaper than BF.
Small car = topbox?
Electric charging points were in very heavy demand towards end of week last year IIRC.

Ferry prices seem to have doubled since pre-covid times, which hurts when you're towing a caravan!  Mind you, hasn't everything

I booked as soon as the dates became available.  My crossings are £41 more than this year, but that also includes an upgrade to 'Flexi' instead of 'Standard'.  Otherwise, same route, same details, same car even.  I notice that my crossing is £23 more than it was in 2019.   So nothing like a doubling since pre-Covid, more like simple inflation.

They were good to suspend my ferry for the 2 main years of covid, but asked for a chunk on top, and were even more expensive this year, so, yes the price has doubled  :'(

Strange.  I had to revise my 2020 booking (five times in the end I think) and don't recall paying anything more than a five extra here and there.  Nowhere near doubled for me.  I think you've been had.....   ;)

I think it all depends on when (time of year) you book it, the prices do vary depending on demand,
Prices I have paid do not seem to have changed that much (if at all)

2019, £329.00 Car+3, Cabin Outbound
2021, £318.00 Car+2, Cabin Outbound
2022, £329.00 Car+3, Cabin Outbound
2023, £329.00 Car+3, Cabin Outbound
2024, £402.00 Car+2, Cabin both ways
Baldrick, my Lord! But I can change it to Ploppy if it'll make things easier.

Mine make quite interesting reading.  I book on the day I find out that the routes have been made available.  In like a shot....

2017 - Car +2 £287
2018 - Car +2 £287
2019 - Car +1 £330
2020 - Car +1 £270
1st amendment - +£15
2nd amendment -+£74
3rd amendment - +£5
4th amendment - -£9
5th amendment - -£11
6th amendment +£17
2023 - Car +1 £312
2024 - Car +1 £353

So in all of this, increases have been pretty modest over the last 6-7 years.  All of the amendments related to the Covid Le Mans changes and then cancellation for 2020 and then 2021 - although I got 'stung' for £74 on one of those amendments, I also had two price reductions, so all the faff only cost me an extra £91, which, in all the circumstances, I consider pretty reasonable.  Each of my bookings included a cabin on the return journey.  If I recall correctly, the much amended 2020/2021 booking included a cabin both ways thanks to Covid requirements which may well account for the larger increase on the 2nd amendment.  Having driven solo (albeit in convoy) since 2019, I suppose that does reflect a price increase over the cost of being '2 up' in 2018 and 2018, but all in all a £66 increase in 7 years (a £23 increase in 5 years) is actually pretty hard to beat, bearing in mind how expensive everything else has become in the last few years.

...  I'm either going to use the newly-purchased electric car, ....

Welcome back, long time no speak Paul. Regardless of which car you use, make sure you purchase a Green entry ticket to get a discounted entry. You will need to upload a copy of your V5 at a later date to prove you have an EV, but there's no requirement to actually travel in it ;) We've used this option for the past 2 years to save a little cash on the GE costs.
