We watched the republic v spain match in 2002 in a bar opposite the carrefour (across the main road). The owner was a cracking chap who kept plenty of drinks on the house coming. Only one of the three of us was actually Irish but it didn't seem to matter. Scottish is apparently close enough. Not sure about that though.

We watched the same game at a bar near the carrefour, it had a tv at the front of the bar with one game on and another in a back room with the Ireland game on... Good crowd in there and very friendly

On the same subject, does anyone know if there is somewhere to watch it in Caen or preferably the ferry port at Ouistreham (nr Caen).

Don't know about in and around Le Mans, but if you're on the way back up to the ports, stop in at Rouen.
We always spend the Sunday night there.
There is an Irish Bar, right in the middle of town. Plenty of out door seating in the square and several TV's to watch the game inside.

no need to choose, if enough TV-equipment is available. I will never forget an incredible scene a couple of years ago during  world  cup time (probably 1990), seeing a bunch of people on Houx Annexe, completely drunken, watching 2 TVs at the same time: a big widescreen TV showing a worldcup football game and another, smaller TV on top of that with the volumne off showing hardcore porn. The bunch in front of the TV sets was waiving and cheering all the time, but it was difficult to say at which program...:-)

With a bunch of friends we're trying to find a private huge place and set up a giant screen to watch this match...

... we probbaly gonna ask a few euros to assist with some beverages included, but not too far of the track.

Anyone interested ?  Huh

I need to be at least as far as Rouen before the match starts. I will be heading off for Calais on Mon am.

Has anyone got any names or numbers of suitable hotels? Around the £30 would so (i.e. not cheapies). I'll also need space to park the car & caravan.

Or suggestions other than Rouen?

Smokie.  We are staying at a 'Campanile' (bit like a THF Lodge) at Evreux which is not too far short of Rouen.  Web site is www.envergure.fr.   Not sure what vacancies might be like now.  Best of luck.
