Bangers!
« on: May 05, 2004, 06:15:24 pm »
Sorry chaps (and chapesses) - this cropped up in CA a thread a while back, but I'm not sure the answer was ever reached...

I'm in search of some of those good old fashioned firecrackers for Fri/Sun night - the red sausage sized ones that come in cakes...

Gilles - are these on your shopping list?, if so roughly how much are they?

If not - does anyone know a shop that might sell them?

Thanks to anyone that can enlighten me, and as we say at Beermountain (very loudly) "Yahhoooooo!"

There's an old fashioned firecracker gets down our local. But even I wouldn't go there...

It must be the full moon or something. I may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick here, but are we talking about "red sausages coming in cakes"
Now, you don't have to be called Freud to understand what's going on here. Mr Toad, tell me about your childhood....
Trifle has always been a favourite of mine.

Mr H

Don't go there! I don't fancy trifle, but a sausage cake is a rare and much respected treat here at Beermountain!

For the benefit of those in the real world though, the sausage things ( the ones with the explosive powder inside) get wrapped up in rolls (not your average corned beef ones) with the fuses linked together. Believe me this is not a culinary thing, but a way to amuse your fellow race goers, as we did a few years ago on Houx Annexe - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid style - all I remeber is someone saying "who lit the fuse?" when we all started running, only to be enveloped by a wall of spitting red paper and tons of noise. I'm still in treatment for the old ears. (Pardon?).

While you're on Gilles, if you can find someone who wouldn't mind us putting our sausages in their cakes then that would be fine.
