DIY Store en-route
« on: May 25, 2004, 05:26:50 pm »
Does anyone know if there's a large DIY store anywhere on the route from Sees northwards to Calais - (Castorama / Mr Bricolage / etc). Closer to Calais would be best.

I need somewhere which will be open on Monday 14 June and sells nice door handles and kitchen taps.... don't ask ::)

Cheers.

Well I've taken back some "interesting" presents from my trips before but never taps and door handles!!!!

There are quite a few around the Calais area IIRC. Pretty sure there's one near the Auchan and Sainsburys opposite side of the Dual Carriageway from Cite Europe.

One year, one of our merry band went looking all round Le Mans for a shop that specialised in hydraulically opening gates for his driveway !

Others drink and party !!! There are real characters under the sun.
I don't care - I'm a racing driver and I'm here to win, not to finish third.

I once brought back some wallpaper from a trip to France, had some odd looks in business class as I carried it as hand luggage!

can't say that I saw any nice door handles though.

A few years ago, Mrs Brown and myself went to New York for a romantic city break.

She bought the usual clothes and handbags, I bought a set of Shock Absorbers and some ignition parts for our old Pontiac Trans Am  ;)

If you come off the A16 at Boulogne, junction 31, and take the N42 to St Omer there is a huge shopping area about 3 miles down the road, also with an Auchun hyper market, which is cheaper than the one near the Cite europe if you want booze to take home, not certain if there is a DIY store as such, but might be worth a look if you have time.

And I thought I was the only one who brought back taps as 'souvenirs'. Brought back a couple of real quality single lever mixers from Spain a couple of years back. At around 30% of the cost of UK price seems mad not to.
