Only Me
« on: October 20, 2004, 11:26:02 am »
When I logged on earlier this morning there were no other users or guests online. This was the first time I have known this and it got me thinking about different time zones. Is there any way a guest could log his or her location when first viewing and wether they found us by accident or intent it could be a good indicator of the world-wide interest of LM. Maybe even a free CA car sticker or mug for the most remote or unusual location.

You'd need to decide on distance from what?

From Le Mans?

From the web server? (Denmark isn't it?)

Got to be from Le Mans, it's the centre of the known universe isn't it.
Only problem is, BIG H would win it hands down cos most times he is on another planet.

I think Werner posted from Vietnam, that's pretty far off.
I don't care - I'm a racing driver and I'm here to win, not to finish third.

HGB, I think Werner is living back in Germany now. Met him at the champers bar last year, from the little I can remember, he's a very nice bloke. FWIW I once logged into the old site from New Zealand but I can't see it matters where you're based as long as you're a LM fan..
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

Yes, Werner is now back in Cologne but he was in Vietnam for quite some time.

As the crow flies, great circle, reverse navigation (round the globe the other way) or shortest distance between 2 points (could be via the core) ???

.........or shall I shut up  :-\

Wasn't ther a post from a guy in Oz ?
He went to LM for the first time this year.
I'm sure that he had an article posted in EVO, mentioned it here and said he was still paying the bills from this years trip.
Might have imagined it all......

I've never really understood this "as the crow flies" phrase.
Watching some crows flying right now, I can see it takes them absolutely bleedin' ages to get anywhere. Up, down, left, right, stop, cr*p, squawk, land, up again...
I reckon Breugal had the same problem.
If I went down to the newsagent now "as the crow flies" I'd never get there, and I may get arrested as I blundered through Mrs Barlows hedge shrieking and dumping on her lawn.
And how many crows cross Oceans? As far as I know they don't migrate. You don't see V formations of f**king dirty great black-*rsed crows silhouetted against the autumn sky. Not sober, anyway. I suppose you could tape a few to the undercarriage of an Airbus, but it's not the same thing. I'll admit to seeing some dodgy birds at Le Mans, but no crows as far as I can recall.
Steve "Ancient Mariner" Brown, I hope you didn't base any of your navigation on these dodgy avian vectors.
I reckon we need a new phrase.
