Flag Poles
« on: January 29, 2005, 12:09:11 pm »
Advice please!

We have a really good aluminium flag pole about 10m tall. I saw last year some people on MB are using fishing rods (carp rods?) as extensions to flag poles...seems a good idea.

How long can you get them? On ebay the biggest ones I can see are c12ft. Any tips for attaching to flag pole? Or other non fishing rod alternatives...

I'm not going to compete with you folks with really "big ones", but need a few more feet!

Thanks for anyone that can enlighten.

I was one of those that used (fishing Rods). They are actually sold as Flag Poles.

I got mine at a motorcaravan show last year. Mark Every got his in Carrefor!! The Carrefor ones are not as good a quality but I think 5 Meter ones were 5 EURO!! 10 Meter 15 Euro!

I paid about £30 for my 9 meter pole. They usually come with flag clips at the end are telescopic to a sensible size.

I will have a hunt around for a web address of where I got mine.

As Rick said, I got mine on the way back from Pre Quals last year. Can't remember where though?

They were basically 1 Euro per metre. I got 2 x 6Metre ones, one for each end of the Gazebos.

They are quite thin at the top end though so can bend in even slightly high winds.

That said, if your current pole is 10 metres (33 feet) it is probably one of the tallest anyway. And if it is a proper flag pole then I guess the old Quality v Quantity arguement could apply!

I used 'telescopic'.  You get loads of fishing rods, but embedded among these are various poles 3m to 9m, from £4 to £20.

Ironically, when I entered 'telescopic poles', I only got fishing rods!!!

I don't care - I'm a racing driver and I'm here to win, not to finish third.

Robbo, I just searched " Poles ", they are fishing whips do not think they will be strong enough to take full sized flag, but will report back when they arrive.

Hmmmmmm. Not sure whether a fibre glass Roach Pole would act as a conductor??  And there are some tall trees around so it won't be the highest point! Although we are due another wet one again soon I guess.
