French strike action

Does anyone know if there is strike action planned during the le mans period?

As I fly to Paris then take the TGV to Le mans (flights & train already paid) any disruption could really **** up my plans.

The action could of course also effect ferries.

This gets threatened every time, but never seems to happen. It's usually only for 24 hours.

I made a similar plea during the last strike action. See thread 13/05/03. That one DID affect the ferries (i.e. hardly any sailings at all!!!).

Gilles replied that the French trades unions never did give any notice so looks like we'll have to trust to luck....

There we have it folks - best to pack rifles and grenades just in case we are to make it past the blockades...

Two years ago, as we approached Le Mans (just before the large Auchan store) we were held up at the roundabout by a group of strikers from Alstom Power (and to top it all they are one of our customers) Wierdest site though was the Gendarme that was holding one side of a banner for one of the protesters while he got himself another beer from the cool box!!!

Hey yeah - myself and father were out shopping at Auchan and we saw that strike, too. We did wonder what it was all about.

We drove past, blipped the throttle and shouted, "Agincourt !".

probably it was you the most stupid doing this because it's not "agincourt" but "azincourt" and 'cause unions have better to do than refering to middle-age history !

You are right, shouting "Agincourt" is ridiculous in this part of France. Does NBaker not know that our King Henry Plantagenet was actually born in Le Mans!!!?

Actually in historical circles I am told that it is quite acceptable to pronounce the word as either "Azincour" with a french accent or alternatively "Agincourt" in an english accent.

Your union comment is quite correct also. Worldwide, unions are far too busy buggering up the country (and maybe our travel plans) to worry about history.

Finally, to paraphrase Shakespeare " Follow your spirit, and upon this charge cry "God for Harry! England and Le Mans!"
