Bank Holiday Monday
« on: May 06, 2005, 12:53:16 pm »
My local village is having it's annual fete on monday 30th May. A real old fashioned village effort with brass band, donkey rides, Harvey's Best straight out the barrel in the beer tent, dog show, steam engines, kiddies fun fair, strip tent etc. For me the highlight is the substantial classic car show, with over a hundred vehicles last year. They even had a small section for Le Mans cars:

It's proper good day out for all the family. Last year Team Zarse were pleased to welcome Nordic and family and Gibberish. Anyway, we'll be there again au Commer

and would be delighted if any CA'ers were to put in an appearance. Staplefield can be found ten miles south of Gatwick, one minute off the main A23 road to Brighton.
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

May well try to sort out the family for a jaunt down Andy. How do you go about entering the Classic Car show. Do you just turn up on the day or have to pre-book. I'll try to drag my uncle along with his A35.

I can assure you, and you're welcome to verify this yourself at LM, she looks bloody awful in real life. The green paint job was done with a brush and rollers. And no undercoat.

Probably fussy yes, but the white marks above the word COMMER just below the grille is were the paint came of when i was jet-washing the moss off it. Oh and the roof looks a nice shade of silver metallic in the photo, yes? Well it's actually Hammerite with all paint brush bristles stuck in it.  :(

A couple of beers in the garden sound good, if your idea of a smart motor is a commer van.  Which one in the picture was Andy?

The covered wagon in the pic would look just fab in Maison Blanche. Were there any horses? - if so I'd only rate their chances of a return at 50-50.

Weather pemitting I should be along, It was a good afternoon out, to see the commer in all its glory was a real treat.

How do we go about getting some classic cars into the display area?
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.
