New E111

I don't think its well known but E111s have changed.

They seem to be more complex than before.

has anyone got a new one and was it just more forms and a stamp at the post office or did it have to be posted?

No problems with mine - got it a couple of weeks ago.  Get the booklet from the PO, fill in the form and follow the instructions.  Take it back to the PO for rubber stamp and Bob's your auntie.

very quick and easy - the only thing is that you need to know your NHS number to complete the form. You can get this by ringing your doctors office, if you dont have it to hand...

clkgtrlm1, youre correct, your old E111 isnt valid anymore - everyone going to Europe this year needs a new version.
Also your travel insurance firm will normally insist that you have a valid E111.

Yup - in around 6 months time if you've ticked the relavent box on your new form you will receive notification that you will be getting a plastic card instead. Oh deep joy - yet another piece of plastic with my details on for someone to attempt to use   Can't wait for the ID cards.........

Yep E111 has radically changed but easy when the PO counter staff talk you through it.
nice to have an OAP queue behind me for a change
Also got the cheapest travel insurance deal and best euro conversion.
Euro 1.445 no commission
Travel insurance for the 6 days for 2 £20
Result!

Wouldn't have happened at the post office that used to be round the corner from me....

The 2 doddery old ladiesthat ran it made the Charity shop in the league of Gentlemen seem normal.  It closed last year due to some "irregularities"

I'll check the insurance though, don't normally bother but last year made me think it might be worthwhile, it also gives my wife peace of mind!  Presumably the payment on death would be worthwhile!

if your under 50 you can get travel insurance for 6 days for 2 people for £15.50 at www.travelinsuranceweb.com - just for info, spend the savings on beer!

IMO you'd be nuts to travel without travel insurance.  The E111 might get you hospital treatment but it isn't going to get you transported home if you have a serious injury or major illness that requires specialist transport home and stuff like that.

To give you some idea of costs to be got home from France after an accident, my travel insurance covered the following to get me home last April:

Taxi to airport  297 euros
3 seats on the plane, so I could keep leg straight.
7 seat taxi from stansted to home. (£100?)
Doctors bill, 200 euro.
Pharmacy bill 150 euro.

Also they set everything up after 1 phone call from me, and paid all bills direct.

Won't leave the country without decent insurance, all an E111 could do is save you your excess.
