Server outage
« on: July 10, 2005, 11:59:32 pm »
Apologies for the loss of service. Lennart has been busy. Here's what was going on...

On  top of having a completely new power system installed (with a scheduled downtime of the entire hosting company!) we suffered  a failing memory bank, when we eventually got the power back.

I  switched to the other server - which should have a copy of ev erything which is less than 24 hours old. Since I was still playing  with  different  upgrades,  I had NOT enabled database syncronization, so there MIGHT be a  few  entries  missing,  as  the newest  databasedump  I  had  accessible was saturday around 11am (GMT) - but I trust it, the  faithful  members  will  post  their stuff again (if any are affected)

The good news, however, is that the sever is now on a power system which is 100% brand new, and with a UPS  and  (in a  few  weeks) diesel generator with 1 MegaWatt capacity, - so we should NEVER run out of power - even if the power companies  get  more  breakdowns (as it seems to be the standard of the day)

Some posts may have been lost as a result. Once again, apologies.

retuned home from an ace moment or two at the G8 to find e-mail from smokster about no CA, logged in and it was here, no problems.

Outage? Outrage more like.  >:(

For one terrifying moment I thought the Modern Commer Replacement thread had gone to the gret recycle bin in the sky. Just lost the last few posts so had slipped down the board a bit. Phew. There's gems in there, gems.  ;)
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

Seems that some people are receiving errors in some threads.

If you receive an error please copy and paste the error message into this thread and also say which topic and forum the error was seen in.

Lennart will do his best to fix them - but I suspect that an index has got broken in the above turmoil...so they may be unrecoverable.

Thanks
Geoff

You can relax garystout , we now have the capability of running on dual power-sources, one of which is with UPS and a 1 MegaWatt generator.

There are 8 (eight) powercables straight from a dedicated 10 kV transformer, each about as thich as an arm, - and rated at 250Amps (at 380 Volts) - so power is NOT running out.

Half of them power the cooling system (makes sense, as the other half produces the heat :-) )

Whats even better is that the entire building is now on this system, - so even the coffee machine will work, if the powergrid drops out - important stuff, ehh?

I believe the small errors we see, has to do with the database being copied  from one machine to the other, - so new posts refer to no no longer existing entires.

But please keep posting the errors in ths thread, so we (I) can track them.

Hi Lennart. I've come to a conclusion. The thread with the newest post in Just to Say Hi forum will always crash when you try to open it.

I set up a thread called Test and it couldn't be read. But I could read the threads which had previously had a problem. So I added a post to the Dark Warrior thread and the test thread then worked OK, but the Dark Warrior didn't.

UPDATE: Not so sure the theory was quite right, but I've managed to start a Junk thread which I can't delete cos it has the problem. It definitely seems that only one thread is unreadable at a time, and this is the latest to be updated. I'll leave it to Lennart...
