britcar 24 on RLM
« on: September 10, 2005, 10:48:18 pm »
If you can get down to silverstone for this in the next 20 hours, do, the racing is great an the organisation first class. The crowd, I'm not sure there are more than a few hundred of us here in the rain. Its live on Radio LeMans now if you want to get a feel for it.....................see you later ;D

By the way, bring a brolly and your own beer/drinks, the caterings a bit limited.

Well done Shortie and the Rollcenter Team, fantasic win.

But it has to be said the hero of track was a the " Silverstone Taxi" A Merc 500 on road tyres. Driven from Germany raced and driven back tonight! Top bunch of guys, came 26th too!!

Congratulations to Rollcentre, very well done !!!

It's been a bit wet as I've seen. That's the Derichs Mercedes. They are regulars in the VLN, the German endurance series at the Nordschleife. Well done to them too.
;D

I don't care - I'm a racing driver and I'm here to win, not to finish third.

hgb, yep it was a wet start, not as wet as 1000k's thankfully, but for a change at Silverstone not cold and wet!

I heard that the Merc had come 100th at the 24hrs at the Nordschleife, a 100th out of 200 :o

just brilliant

i'll post some pics when i've sorted through them

but the highlight was the 500 merc with the standard interior, auto gear box, road tyres, wipers on the headlights, air con, fag lighter electric windows,  a pit crew that was non existent and pit equipment that comprised two chairs, table and a bowl of fruit, one tyre change after 14 hrs using standard good year road tyres.

couldn't find the eight track player but it must have been in there

they did get lapped after two laps in the first four minutes but hey who cares fantastic

as was shoty's win and the battle down to the last five minutes of the 24 hrs

 ;D ;D

and i was rummaging around in the loft, when i found an original copy of the bible.....which was nice

I agree the Merc was a real crowd (what crowd?) pleaser and what a fantastic and well deserved reception it got form the other teams at the end of the race. But what impressed and suprised me I guess was the quality of the driving/racing at the front...........fantastic!

Really really great value.

It must be somewhere in the wooden dashboard. A real classic... they should apply for LM ;D

BTW Bobblehat, please give Shorty a (virtual) hug from me next time you see him in the pub, thanks.  :)

Um, don't know how often you have been old timer, but I remember the first RLM transmissions, from long long ago and they were great, commentery and race updates non stop, well this coverage was the same, you always had a clear idea of who was where, and most importantly where they were in relation to each other i.e. 'one lap behind the leader' etc, no tedious distractions!! It reminded me of 1986!! Bloody brilliant.
