There are several Houston TV stations doing webcasts of their local programming as Rita starts coming ashore.  If you have broadband go the following website and click on

Howdy folks,
Well, in East Texas, we dodged a bullit.  South East Texas and South West Louisianna were the impact points for Rita.   Although it's bad when you are slapped by one of these bitc*s, it was not like Katrina regarding the total devastation and magnitude of destruction.  Yep we evacuated 2.5 million people from the Houston, Galvestion and coastal Tx area in 36 hours and it wasn't pretty but as far as we know now, none of them died except the 24 elederly folks in the bus fire just south of Dallas.   It was the largest evacuation ever done in US history.
The eye of the storm went to the east (about 50 miles) of my house so all we got was some wind and rain but still making for some stressful 16 hours of endurance.   My daughter, the school teacher who brings me to Europe with the school trips, lives in North West Houston and did just fine.  Lots of wind and rain but no damage.
Anyway, that's the update.  I just want to thank everyone who had us in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Hi John
Very relieved that you are safe and well after the latest storm. Having experienced a couple myself last year (and we ain't out of the woods this year yet) I know precisely how stressful it all is.
Probably low on your list of priorities, but fuel availability permitting, will we see you at Road Atlanta next weekend?
Matt
If it\'s good and fast, it won\'t be cheap. If it\'s fast and cheap, it won\'t be good. If it\'s good and cheap, it won\'t be fast.

Good to hear that it ended not as bad as expected. Still, the hurricane season is not over yet.
I don't care - I'm a racing driver and I'm here to win, not to finish third.
