Bluetooth in France.
« on: September 30, 2005, 04:39:58 pm »
Having just bought a new phone, it's interesting to note that it says on the packaging:-

Your phones Bluetooth features and Bluetooth Class ! power levels are not allowed for operation in France. To avoid unlawful interferance with radio signals, do not use the Bluetooth features in France, unless you are indoors

So, when sauntering down next June, you may think you're being a good boy, with your earpiece in. May be not.

Better take some more cash, to go along with the speeding fines!
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem.

Maybe worth exchanging messages via Blue tooth on mad friday then ! Could add some strange readings to events.

Well, then it's either calling in the car with the cellphone on my ear and breaking hte law, or using my bluetooth carkit and breaking the law! Or is in the car also indoors?  ???

This film should be played at high volume, so don't come complaining about it! And who the hell is Steve?

I really not understand this warning as I regularly use my bluetooth ear without any fine

Well I have a French built Bluetooth car.  As far as I know you can't turn off the bluetooth in the car.

Some you just can't win.

Bluetooth standards are slightly different in France - lower power, fewer channels. That's all.

I think KPY has hit it on the head. It's something to do with Bluetooth from UK being more powerful than the French legistlation allows for.

What ever happened to EU Harmonisation?

Bearing in mind that the ranghe of the average Bluetooth device is 10 to 15 feet, I think you'll be safe Nobby!!

JPC,

Different Class Bluetooth have different ranges. A Class 1 has a theoretical range of 100m, hence the warning on the box about French laws.

Granted, most sets are pretty useless though and 15 feet is a fair measure of their capability.
