Proposed Club Arnage makeover for 2006 - Comments please
« on: December 16, 2005, 09:30:21 am »
Comments please on this proposal for re-build of Club Arnage.

1. The Forum is unchanged

2. The Main site includes a 'Wicki' or searchable visitor-built Le Mans reference. The visitors build the reference material and keep it fresh, but we start it with the information already on the site.

3. The Main site also includes a blogging tool for the various Le Mans groups to post group-related diary and pictures. It will also be open to race teams to post press releases.

What do you think?

Good idea Dave, especiallly the blog facility.
I don't care - I'm a racing driver and I'm here to win, not to finish third.

The idea is to take the strength of the CA forum community and apply the same formula to the remainder of the site. There is so much wit and wisdom out there, we thought it would be logical to have CA peeps do it for themselves.

I think the forum part of the web site works well, so would be in favour of keeping it the same, I don’t often look at the rest as it seems to be out of date most of the time (appreciate it would be a big commitment to keep it up), so the addition of the "wicki" and a "blog" feature would be good as they would be interesting and self maintaining.

Whitey

Think of a blog as diary/scrapbook/journal and a wiki as an encyclopedia which the readers maintain.

I stand to be corrected on that, but that's how I see them.

Steve

ps Both excellent ideas

Wiki = A Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.
It allows everyday users to create and edit any page.

Blog = short for "Web Log" in essence an online diary but it has grown to be a lot more than that. Examples of 'Blog' are things like myspace.com and livejournal.com

Both sound good ideas.

I have never used either so am not sure how it works, but is there a chance that the wiki could become abused with incorrect and misleading info put onto the system?

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.

Wiki is actually the abbreviation of the German term "Wissenskiste" which means something like "knowledge box" when translated one to one.

The Wiki entries would be moderated/edited before they progress to the public area of the site. We would recruit a cadre of moderators from forum regulars to make sure things don't get held up for too long.

The same goes to a lesser extent with the Blog. Only the blog owners and CA admin would have posting access.

Not thought of that...  maybe CA should also freehost LM images.  I could include image gallery in the blogger. That way you could have pics hosted with us.
