Speaking of Steve, hope his son Chad gets well soon.
Was busted up pretty badly in a testing accident at Daytona in preparation for the Rolex 24 Hours.

I read that about Chad about a week or so ago - the article said his injuries were life threatening at the time of the incident. Do you have any idea what the latest is?

What Steve posted was the latest I've heard.  Sounds like he's going to recover but looking at a long healing and rehabilitation process.

If you have not already done so, i would suggest you read a 'French Kiss with Death', Its a very good read.

While I agree that McQueen was a talented actor and skilled driver, he could also be a knob in his treatment of his family and people who worked for him.

I did not know this untill this months Motorsport. Steve McQueen raced at Brands Hatch in a Mini, coming 3rd to Vic Elford and Christable Carlise. He was staying with John Whitmore when he was filming the Great Escape, and borowed his car for the race.

The Peterson collection also has my all time favorate "Custom" Billy Gibbon's "Cadzilla". Does anyone know if there is a model avalible of it?

McQueen's most celebrated racing exploit was when he, co-driving with the late Peter Revson in a Porsche 908 spyder finished second to the Ferrari 512S of Mario Andretti, Ignazio Giunti and Nino Vaccarella in the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring.  McQueen actually drove with a small cast on his foot from an earlier injury.  Incidentally this has always been a sore subject with Mario (and myself for what that's worth).  The media went nuts about "the great Steve McQueen's heroic drive" but the truth is he did barely enough driving to give Revvie a rest.  The real heroic drive was from Revson who raced the wheels off that little Porker against the might of the Ferrari factory squad.  Mario's always been pissed that Peter's monumental drive has always been overshadowed by his illustrious co-drivers participation.

I'm sure that ERTL did a model of Cadzilla around the early nineties. I have a pal who will know, will try and find out. Very cool car BTW
