Parking Elsewhere and Hiking To Campgrounds?
« on: March 07, 2006, 08:00:24 am »
Is this possible?  It looks like a friend will be meeting up at the track with us, driving a rental down from Amsterdam.  He can't ditch the rental for the 3 days at LM, and I'm assuming that Karting Nord (where we'll be) is sold out.  The $300+ that Justtickets want is out of the question, I'm afraid.

Is there general overnight parking available somewhere that he could leave the car and some contents (safely  ::) ), then backpack his necessities over to Karting Nord to stay with us?

Thanks in advance!

You can buy numbered parcing spaces in 'blanc' or 'expo' direct from the ACO for 31 Euros. I ordered one last week and they had plenty left. Blanc is closest to Karting Nord, probably a 20-30 min walk as you have to go via the underpass to the South of the car park.

Dobbo is correct that you can buy numbered spaces if you want a reserved spot that is always yours so you can come and go as you please. But the other car parks are cheaper and are on a first come first served basis and the Vert (Green) car park would be closer to Karting Nord. If he si just going to park it and not move it for three days then I'd recommend that option, unless of course you are lucky and manage to pick up an additional Karting Nord ticket at face value off here nearer the time.

And these are reasonably secure lots that are legal for overnight parking?  I guess "secure" is ambiguous unless they post armed guards.  ::)

I'd overlooked the parking section of the ticket order form until just now.   ::)   It looks like the Karting Sud parking lot is closer to KN, but unnumbered.  Is there any advantage to getting a numbered spot rather than being closer to us in KN?

I used Parking Vert in 2003 took the Ferrari in and "camped"  had a sleeping bag and used it as and when needed, it was okay for a few nights.  There were some tents etc but really not allowed and i guess you might be asked to take them down.  The French are very inquisitive when it comes to cars and show a lot of respect.  Had no fears about the cars safety, it was easy to get in and out of the car park.

Wotcher Chop!
I used Parking Vert a few years ago on a family outing to Le Mans.
Unfortunately late on Saturday night someone stole my Grandmother. And then on Sunday morning Uncle Wally went missing.
You have to learn from these things, and the following year I chained Nan to the rear bumper with one of those heavy duty motorbike security chains, and I'm pleased to say she never budged. It's very important to remember to unchain any relatives though, before you drive off.

The numbered spaces mean you always know that the same spot is yours. I guess it makes it easier to find your car as well when you return to it, so if you are likely to tajke the car in and out fo the car park then that may be better. I'm not sure if the other car parks sell out at all over the weekend? I guess having a numbered spot gives you a bit more piece of mind.

As for security, as long as you don't leave valuable in full view to tempt any chancers I would hope that the car would be OK.

H is right.  Here in lymington many of the wrinkles forget about items they have left attached to the bumper. A few years ago a we dog was left attached to the rear bumper. It manged to keep up for a while................

Hi there,

i will have a blanc parking ticket which i will not be using as we park at the accommodation and get a cab in to the track. Only problem is that i dont get to Le Mans until Thursday afternoon and i am not sure when i will get the ticket from MRI as they are already moaning about sending out our entrance tickets in time for PQ. If you want it you can have it

Bastards.  The GA ticket includes entry to PQ - so if you want it they should let you have it.

Double Bastards !!!! If they can't get the tickets sorted so that they can be used within their validity, they shouldn't be in business. Come to think of it, they shouldn't be in business. >:(

My friend is interested, but it depends on when you'd be able to get it.  He's leaving the states on 9 June, so it would have to be here before then.  He'll pay whatever costs are incurred, but again, this depends on whether he could get it in time.  See what the theives tell you and let me know.   ;)

He's not getting to LM until Saturday.

Thanks!
