European Breakdown Cover

I'm going to Le Mans this year and I want to insure my 1994 911 for breakdown in Europe as well as the UK.

I think the fact that it's more than ten years old can have an impact on this.

Can anyone offer any advice or recommend any insurers?

I use Liverpool Victoria, Bournemouth for my "Fiat" and other cars cheapest and best insurers I have come across in a long while, also Civil Service Motoring Association, you may not be eligible for membership but worthwhile joining if you can.  They use Britannia rescue, very good used them twice in about 35 years, faultless service at a very reasonable price.

The Fiat insurance is stunning, PM and I will explain in more detail

They cover cars up to 15 years old, but its 50% more.  Caravans are free.

AA 5 star is £94.26 for me, or £28 with Vehicle Rescue.  Hard one that, as the actress said to the Bishop.

Shame the ACO have stopped their very basic cover, as I'm only after a little comfort.

30 years with the RAC and I've called them out 3 times.

Aren't ACO members partly covered in the Le Mans area? I don't speak much French, but thought I understood that from my membership letter

Yes, ACO is a recovery service for all of France (and some of Belgium I believe). But it is simply that - they tow you to the nearest garage and leave you to it. I guess most people will want additional cover like onward travel, repatriation of unrepairable motors etc.

I've just got my renewal through, and there is no mention of it in the colour brochure they send out.  Looking back at old ones, there was also no mention of it in last years, but all previous ones from 2004 there was specific details about it.

On the other hand, the renewal form still asks for the details of your three cars!!!

Ahhh   The joys of not owning the Car.  The Leasing company we use provides all the Five Star and so on.  Not that that helps.

To answer my own question - yes, it is.  Just had my new membership card and details through the post, and it details the breakdown cover.  As Smokie says, it is a bit limited.

Interesting.  The recovery and free program were the only reason I joined.  The renewal documentation doesn't mention recovery, and 93 Euros is a bit steep, if you're not buying tickets.  I think ordinary membership is cheaper than that.  I've given up.

The brochure which comes with the new card atates:

- one free breakdown/tow truck intervention
- loan of replacement car for one day in France  if the repairs are scheduled to take longer than 5 hours, or if the car is immobilised for more than 24 hours.  You also get emergency roadside assistance 24/7, and it does not specify any limitations on this.

Not great, but for me it's free.  I save more than the 93 euros on the the tickets I buy.

Well I've decided that http://www.vehicle-rescue.com/index.html at £28 and E5  for a program will be cheaper.  And I'll get the free dvd with the program.

I bought a second program last year just for the free Steve McQueen film and then had to by the machine to play it on.
