Almost spilled my coffee while laughing when reading that yesterday's Le Mans Series 1000 km race in Istanbul had to be shortened to 4 hours because there wasn't enough fuel available at the racetrack  First I thought it to be a late april fool, but apparantly exactly this happened. Not enough fuel at an automobile race, what a masterpiece of organisation  By the way: Bouillon / Collard in the Pesca won... |

This is a disgrace... the teams put in that much effort to put on a spectacular show and then the organisers manage to spoil it all, unbelievable. Yet again they also managed sucessfully to keep spectators off.  I very much hope that this is it for Istanbul. They don't deserve a LMS race. |

I'm still struggling to see the sense in having an LMES race in Istanbul.
I know Turkey is supposed to be in the EU and this is a European series, but the majority of fans live in 'western' Europe / Scandinavia.
There MUST be an alternative venue for next year?

From the highlights on Motors TV it looked a cracking race.
Did I hear that they only told the teams the race was going to be shortened after the race started?

If all else fails there's Zandvoort.
Anyway, I didn't realise that the circuit provided the fuel. I thought this was abandoned in 1988? when Le Mans bought some cheap stuff from Carrefour, and everything was melting pistons.
If they have a central supplier (like Shell) then they should know how much is needed. Perhaps it got nicked.
And the remains of the fuel tank system (a series of manholes etc) are by the pit wall opposite the far right hand pit. Strangely it wasn't dug out when the pits were rebuilt. Just be careful where you drop your dog ends [/anorak off]

Le Mans has got a complete refulling system underneath their pitboxes, I was told at the RfH-factory. Apparently the ACO charge the teams about €7,- a litre |

This is odd. You'd put a lot of effort into setting up the engine management for a particular fuel, and then not trust anything else. They must have a central supplier of race fuel, but god knows what rubbish there must be in the pipes, and E7 a litre is expensive
