Randy - that is a great video! Thanks for posting it. What a magical era that was.
The un-molested Muslanne is truly terrifying isn't it?

In the days before the chicane the highest speed was over 250mph, I think the 917's 512 etc where in the 220mph region. http://www.mulsannescorner.com/maxspeed.htmgives the recorded speeds

Isn't the Mulsanne speed record held by a Peugeot?

A peugeot powered WM hit 405kph (251mph) in 1988 during the race.
The Sauber Merc was close behind in 89 getting up to 400kph (248mph) during practice
The in car 956 vid is well worth getting hold of. The lap of spa will have your heart in your mouth.

Yeah could well be from 'In Car 956' as that is definitely NOT a 917, despite the video title! Pretty sure that is 1983 as the (presumably) 956 passes a Cougar at the start of the Mulsanne and then it's the Emka-Aston that it gets under braking for Ford. Top footage and it reminds me that I need to dig out the VHS, it is definitely worth it for Spa but don't forget that lap of the Nordschliefe too!!

Don;t recall that as the In Car 956 video - in that one, Ickx passes Bell just after the Mulsanne corner, and then Bell follows him through the rest of the circuit..
